  • Family-run site situated on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Direct access to Porthsele beach; a mile from Whitesands
  • Farm shop, coffee hut, bar and pizzas available in high season
Fancy a stay on a family-run farm… with direct access to a beach below? Make your way to Pencarnan Farm Caravan and Camping Site, a 96-acre farm overlooking Porthsele beach on the Pembrokeshire coast. The site is on the most western tip of Pembrokeshire, with views of St Georges Channel connecting the Irish and Celtic seas. You'll be in good company with a stay here: generations of the same family have been running the site since the mid-1950s, a holiday spot for guests who return year after year – some with their kids and grandkids now in tow. This place is just the ticket for outdoor adventures too, as it's set directly above Porthsele beach (with private vehicle access so you can cart all your kit along with you). The sea and bay are safe for swimming and kayaking, and there are plenty of rockpools to explore at low tide. If you haven’t got your fill of sea breeze, surfing beach Whitesands is a one-mile walk along the coastal path or, if you’re feeling adventurous, a half-mile swim or kayak from Porthsele. Sorting supplies is easy at the farm too: in the high season, a site shop is on hand with camping and food supplies, wetsuits and logs for beach fires, and a coffee hut opens every day. A bar and pizzas are also available at peak times.

Carn Llidi View unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked We had a fabulous time staying at Pencarnan farm. We highly recommend it. It has its own private beach and some lovely coastal walks. It’s a short drive into St.David’s and the facilities are easily accessible and clean

Disliked One negative is the on site shop was shut and some of the facilities (pizza bar) are shut which seemed a shame as the weather was good. Also the WiFi is only accessible by the toilets.

Beach Field unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked The location and views.
We enjoyed walking and being close to the beach.

Disliked The price. Was advertised to expect a lot more!!
Outdated and dirty facilities. Only one block of draughty showers with lukewarm warm water.
Abandoned site; Reception did not open at all for our 5 nights. Shop/bar/cafe and pizza all closed before we arrived with no warning. Site owners or staff were non existent for our whole 5 nights! We literally so nobody, including cleaners!

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I'm glad you enjoyed the location, views and activities on offer - I'm sorry those factors didn't bump your review up any higher than a 1!

Our prices are clearly advertised, indeed paid, ahead of arrival. You paid low season rates, which reflects the fact that The Courtyard closes outside of high season. You may have noticed the site was very quiet, and so while we'd love to keep everything open all year round, we simply can't.

Equally, having someone sitting in reception all day out of season doesn't make sense to us, so instead we have people on call should you need anything, with numbers clearly listed at reception. The family lives on site so not abandoned, simply quiet which many people enjoy. Toilets and showers are cleaned regularly - it appears you would have preferred someone standing with a mop ready to go at all times, in which case Pencarnan isn't the place for you at this time of year...

Staff are really friendly, got everything…

16-amp Rhosson Field powered grass caravan site

Liked We LOVE pencarnan. It’s our favourite campsite, because of the people we meet there, the easygoing nature of the whole place, the PRIVATE BEACH, the simplicity of it all, the cleanliness, friendliness and good old value for money. Not to mention its proximity to st davids

Disliked Disliked reading some reviews on this place from people who’d be much better suited to air b & b… that said, we read the reviews on our journey from home to campsite so we were solidly entertained by the ridiculousness of some people

Liked Stayed on the Beach field. Stunning views, good price. So many nice walks, beaches and towns in walking distance. Staff on site were friendly and the bar and pizza shack on site were an added bonus! You wont regret staying here, 100% will return next year.

Local attractions

This is heaven for beach buffs: Porthsele and Whitesands beaches are both within walking distance of Pencarnan. At Porthsele, take your pick from kayaking, surfing and paddleboarding from its sandy shore; if fishing's more your bag you can fish for mackerel, pollock and seabass from the beach and from certain points on the cliff around Pencarnan's land. There are also a few marked climbing spots around the cliffs on the land and some good entry points for coasteering or a coastal swim back to Porthsele beach… followed back at base with a sunset beach fire or barbecue to end the day. The famed surfing centre of Whitesands, a mile away on the coast path from Pencarnan, has a café, deckchairs and wetsuit hire, plus lifeguards in the summer months. Heading south, St Justinian’s (under a mile away along the coast path) is home to RNLI St Davids Lifeboat Station and a departure point for boat trips around, onto and beyond Ramsey Island to spy seals, seabirds, porpoises, whales, dolphins and sharks. Make time too for a trip to the tiny city of St Davids, to browse its shops and galleries and take a look at sixth-century St Davids Cathedral.
