  • Café and shop; watersports, bike hire, fishing and woodland walks
Picked Pembrokeshire as your destination because of the scenery? You’ll be able to soak it up at all hours when staying at Llys-y-frân Lakeview Campsite – this family-friendly site is on the banks of Llys-y-frân Reservoir, with fabulous watery views (at their best at sunset, thanks to the site’s west-facing location). You may well want to spend a fair amount of time simply looking out over the lake while you’re here – perhaps from a table at the Lakeside Café, which serves up hot drinks and sweet treats as well as a lunchtime menu of hot food showcasing top-notch local produce. Alternatively, bring your fishing kit and settle in for a relaxed day trying to catch trout from the lakeshore or one of the electric boats. Got something more energetic in mind? You’ll be sorted too, as the terraced site slopes down to an activity centre where you can book kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding sessions or hire bikes to hit the lakeside path or mountain bike trails. For other land-based activities, have a go at archery or channel your inner Celt with some axe throwing. For the younger adventurers, there are off-road six-wheeler ‘Crazi Bugz’ vehicles to drive, a climbing wall and an adventure playground. For something slower-paced, try woodland walks from the site, or set out a feast at one of the picnic spots. Dogs are also catered for with an agility playground. Practical facilities include hot showers, toilets in the activity centre, chemical disposal point, a washing-up area, a gift shop and wifi in the visitor centre. The village of Rosebush (10 minutes’ drive) is home to a characterful pub offering a traditional Welsh experience.

What customers say

Great spot, top-notch facilities, and super friendly staff. Loads to do for families, especially the bike tracks and playgrounds. Generally peaceful, but be aware of noise rules. Shop's a bit basic, and some pitches can get boggy.

Liked The facilities are ok but no good if your a single parent to more than one child. The bike ramps were a hit with the kids.

Disliked Unfortunately our experience was ruined by the curfew and unwelcoming warden. The atmosphere felt as tho we were being monitored rather than enjoying a chilled weekend. Being told to go to bed at 9am to stick to the rules but having kids screaming and running around at 5:45am was ok and not being monitored by the warden.

Powered concrete slab campervan or trailer tent site

Liked Lovely location, helpful, friendly staff. Each level pitch has a power & water point, with a light. Lovely hot showers with no restrictions on water flow. Great site for families with lots of activities you can book and the free bike parks/trails that kids really enjoyed. Bring a bike or hire on site.

Disliked Pitches are a bit tight and quite close together. Hardstanding pitches need rock pegs and a drill hammer ideally. The pitch lights are on all through the night which is wasteful and impacts on wildlife and kept the kids awake. Toilet facilities for the whole site are a bit meagre. Only 3 cubicles each gender. Same with shower rooms only 3 per gender. Toilets and showers are not well sign-posted and a bit difficult to find. Toilets not cleaned frequently enough for the number of families that were onsite. No policing on the "quiet time". Some very noisy groups until 1am.

Liked Beautiful site.

Disliked Too close to others.
Very noisy people, small kids with no respect for others running riot till gone 11pm. Parents blissfully unaware as not with their kids.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Lovely site, very clean. Beautiful view, walks and plenty to keep entertained. The land activities were 45mins which I thought was really good. We saw lots of wildlife and staff were all super friendly.

Disliked We booked in the hopes of doing some water activities but when we arrived I realised they weren't single parent friendly (or there insurance isn't) we couldn't do anything on the water and with the heat being 30c it was hard to see the water but not cool off in it. I understand it's not anything they could do but was still a dislike to our trip and we ended up having to head out to seek it.

Liked Fantastic holiday, campsite was clean, with all necessary facilities within easy reach. The staff were polite, always available and extremely helpful.
My daughter enjoyed cycling on the cycle track and around the lake with the various cycle paths. We enjoyed a trip in a canoe on the lake and several hours in the park.
The shop was well stocked with essential items and lovely gifts. The cafe was a big hit from breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea and cake.

Powered concrete slab campervan or trailer tent site

Liked The friendliness of the staff is the stand out feature of this campsite. From the reception staff, warden, cafe staff and most notably the activity centre staff. Everyone is very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.
The reservoir is beautiful and there is such an array of activities to enjoy for all ages. We hired the recreational boat which was so much fun and very relaxing on one of the hottest days of the year.
Pitches are moderately sized so we were unable to fit our outdoor shelter as well as our VW van and awning but luckily we didn't need it as the weather was perfect.
The views are awesome especially at sunset.
We saw peregrine falcons, herons, bats, buzzards, water vowels (on our pitch, they were so cute) geese, swallows and much more.
It's a very calm, relaxing site which suits those who enjoy outdoor pursuits including mountain biking, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, walking etc.

Disliked None! There was limited to no WiFi which for us was great as it helped reconnect as a family and just enjoy the location and occasion.

Local attractions

There’s a lot to do on site, for sure – but there’s also plenty to keep you busy when venturing out into your surroundings. The Pembrokeshire coast, for example, is less than half an hour’s drive away, for beach days in the likes of Broad Haven (half an hour’s drive), the ever-popular Tenby or its neighbour Saundersfoot (both 40 minutes). Pembrokeshire’s packed with historic places to visit too, including the lovely little city of St Davids (40 minutes), with its ancient cathedral and Bishops’ Palace. Carew Castle & Tidal Mill (35 minutes) is also worth a visit, to hear the tale of the castle’s 2000-year history and see the only restored tidal mill in Wales. If that’s not the kind of thing your kids are keen on, perhaps instead plan trips to the Pembrokeshire Llama Sanctuary (15 minutes), Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (half an hour) or the action-packed Heatherton World of Activities (35 minutes) for things like paintballing, ziplines and crazy golf.
