  • Secluded fully equipped lodge by a natural brook in Carmarthenshire
  • On the edge of the Bannau Brycheiniog, 20 minutes' walk from Llandeilo
  • Fully wheelchair-accessible bathroom and kitchen facilities
On the western edge of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, surrounded by gorgeous green gardens and with a brook running right past… now, doesn’t that sound like a fabulous location for a little break in the Carmarthenshire countryside? And it gets even better, because Ty Cefn Tregib is a mere 10 minutes’ walk from Ffairfach village and 20 minutes from Llandeilo, putting you within easy reach of several nice places to eat, drink and shop. Handily, both Ffairfach and Llandeilo also have railway stations for easy travels via public transport. You’ll also be within walking distance of the National Trust’s Dinefwr estate, home to both Dinefwr Castle and the grand Jacobean mansion Newton House. So that’s all sounding pretty great on the location front… but what about the place itself? Well, you’ll be pleased to hear it’s equally excellent, with 10 acres of gardens and woodland to relax in and some splendid views out to the surrounding countryside. The lodge you’ll be staying in has been thoughtfully designed to help guests make the most of their surroundings – it’s completely private and secluded with a lovely deck overlooking the brook. The cosy interior has a superking bed (which can be made into two singles upon request), a woodburning stove, a comfy sofa and lots of characterful reclaimed furniture and decorations. You’ll be entirely self sufficient here, with your own bathroom and fully equipped kitchen, plus an outdoor bath. Bedding, towels and firewood are all provided to make life easy – and for one final cherry on top of all this, all the facilities have been designed to be wheelchair accessible to allow all guests to enjoy this lovely countryside corner.

Local attractions

Your first outing here should be to the Dinefwr estate (40 minutes’ walk) for a stroll around the deer park and visits to both the Jacobean mansion and the remains of the 12th-century castle. After that, carry on up into Llandeilo to wander among the colourful houses and stop by in one of the town’s pubs or eateries. Being on the edge of the Bannau Brycheiniog, there are lots more walks nearby too, whether you fancy a gentle riverside stroll, a history-themed wander around Carreg Cennen Castle (10 minutes’ drive) and its surroundings or a challenging uphill trek at the Black Mountain (25 minutes). Golf, horse riding and cycle trails are also close by, and there’s some great wildlife watching at the Red Kite Feeding Station Llanddeusant (25 minutes). Looking a little further afield, other outings might take you to the National Botanic Garden of Wales (20 minutes), Dolaucothi Gold Mines (25 minutes) or the Carmarthenshire coast – the nearest beaches are about 35 minutes away.
