  • Lodge amid woodland and grassland with access to a waterfall pool
  • A 15-minute drive to Llandeilo and 20 minutes to Dinefwr Castle
  • Double bed, firepit, woodburner, kitchen and outdoor decking area
Book a break at the adults-only Serenity Lodge and it’s fairly clear what you’re getting yourself into from the name alone: a peaceful and private stay in top-notch accommodation. But what the name doesn't mention is that the site, outside the teeny village of Capel Isaac, is surrounded by 10 acres of Carmarthenshire woodland and grassland, with a waterfall pool for wild swims. Also worth noting about this luxury couples' glamping lodge is that it's hand-crafted from responsibly sourced materials – so it’s eco-friendly as well as posh – and comes with a woodburning stove, a proper bed and an outdoor firepit on the spacious decking (plus a culinary kit for alfresco cooking). If you’d rather get grub on the go indoors, the lodge has a fully-equipped kitchen area with gas hobs and hot water; other indoor facilities include an ensuite shower and a compost toilet. Restaurants and pubs are over in the little town of Llandeilo, a 15-minute drive away, and independent shops are dotted about the town (and local villages) for groceries. An apple orchard for picking your own healthy snacks is a 20-minute walk from the park. Once you’ve filled the belly, set off to poke about in the grounds – this private site on the outskirts of the Brecon Beacons is down a mile-long farm track away from other people, and has a woodland walk leading straight from the grounds down into the nearby valley. For a chilled-out walk, cross the footbridge over the river and see the fields open up with scenic views in all directions…

Lodge

Liked: The build style and size of the cabin is wonderful, with a log fire inside to keep you nice and warm. The hosts were very nice and helped to make our stay the best. The scenery is beautiful with a river running through the site, well out of the way so no disturbances only the sound of birds tweeting and the river flowing. Very clean and had cooking facilities, a warm shower and a compost toilet which made the stay in the wild more authentic.

Disliked: Weather wasn’t the best so wellies would be recommended

Local attractions

The lodge is half an hour’s drive from Carreg Cennen Castle, for strolls up to the hilltop fortress with views out over the sweeping landscape of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Admire the landscape, then drop back down to a lower level for meanders through the hills or travels towards other attractions like the pretty Llyn y Fan Fach lake and the National Showcaves Centre for Wales (both around an hour). Outside the national park, Carmarthen’s a half an hour drive past the National Botanic Garden of Wales, and some of the south-west coast beaches are within an hour, such as Llansteffan (45 minutes) and the lengthy sands of Pembrey Country Park (50 minutes). Weather not up to sandy strolls? Zoom 45 minutes north to Brechfa Forest instead for tree-lined walks or to take on some of the best mountain bike trails in the UK.
