  • Rural site on a 70-acre family farm 15 minutes' drive from Carmarthen
  • Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion coastlines within a half-hour drive
  • Campfire areas and gas-fired oven for cooking your own pizzas
Got your compass set on the Carmarthenshire countryside for things like canoeing, coasteering and mountain biking? You’ll be well set to get going from Glampio Cowin, part of a family farm a little over a mile from the small village of Blaenycoed and about 15 minutes’ drive from Carmarthen. This is a place where you’ll be settling down to soak up the rural views from 70 acres of rural space. Handily, the local area has plenty a place to break your walking shoes in: strolls along local lanes or a hike down to the nearby stream, perhaps. You’ll often spot wildlife around the site, and wake to the sounds of the dawn chorus. It’s not just the sights of Carmarthenshire that are close by here – Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion are easily accessed too, so this makes a great spot from which to explore West Wales, and its coastline in particular. All sorts of other activities are around in the local area, or you could plan more leisurely days out by the seaside in the likes of Laugharne or Cardigan with a half-hour drive. On site, facilities include a dedicated toilet for each pitch, shared showers, firepit areas and a pizza oven that’s lit once a week for you to try out your dough-baking skills (there’s dough to buy on site, but you’ll need to bring along whatever you’d like to scatter on top). A convenience store is about 10 minutes’ drive away for supplies, and there's a wider choice of shops and places to eat in Carmarthen or Newcastle Emlyn.

Unpowered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: We stayed here in our little campervan over the coronation weekend and had a lovely stay. Really friendly owner who regularly checked in that we were ok. Our daughter loved chatting to 'the farmer'. We made our own pizza BYO toppings, with the owner providing the dough, passata and chef skills! Beautiful site with really spacious pitches with a fab amount of space between pitches. Amazing space in the centre of the field for children to play without disturbing other campers. Lovely small site with great views. Little to no light pollution in the nights so we could stargaze around the fire pit. Each pitch gets its own firepit and picnic bench, with a wood storage shed at the entrance to the field. Each pitch also has its own composting toilet, much nicer than sharing with loads of other people! Will definitely book again.

Disliked: Not a dislike just a suggestion - more hooks in the shower and a little bench to make it easier to get dressed please :-)

From the manager: We're so glad that you enjoyed your stay. All suggestions are welcome - we'll do something about the hooks as soon as possible! Thank you for your kind words.

Unpowered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked: Each pitch has its own composting toilet. Remote location in beautiful countryside, site has a nice view down the valley, pitches are well spaced out and facilities are excellent. Owners are helpful and friendly and a really nice touch was the home made pizza night on the outdoor pizza oven, byo ingredients and the farmer provided the doe, cheese and passata then cooked them for us. Lots of places to visit on south coast or west coast within one hour drive.

Bell tent

Liked: It was a lovely venue, very remote and quiet. Plenty of greenery to explore and enjoy. The owner very kindly gave us the two bell tents as they were free. Lots of equipment and tools to use.

Disliked: The weather was awful, with heavy rain and strong winds. The bell tent held up but the wind kept blowing the fire out unfortunately. That's the risk with camping though!!

Bell tent

Liked: Quiet site, host was excellent, mighty fine pizzas, tent was comfortable, cooking facilities also splended. Loved it...

Disliked: Kitchen could have done with a few more utensils - such as cutting knives and a Baird.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your kind words. We'll definitely add the chopping board but I'm not sure about putting cutting knives in the kitchen, simply for safety reasons as we are a family campsite. We're glad that you enjoyed your stay and would like to thank you for leaving everything in such a good condition.

Local attractions

Before you get to all the activities, you might want to stock up on your supplies or cheesy pizza toppings at the Caws Cenarth cheese maker (20 minutes’ drive). For other leisurely little trips, there’s the National Wool Museum (20 minutes), the castle and swimming pool in Newcastle Emlyn (20 minutes) or the National Botanic Garden of Wales (35 minutes). Picking up the pace is easy here too, and you’ll have a fair choice of what to do. Canoeing, accessed within 25 minutes’ drive of the site? Cardigan (35 minutes) for its castle and all manner of watersports? A swim or sail from Aberporth beach (35 minutes)? With the Teifi Valley Railway (20 minutes) so close by too, you could rest your feet while chilling out on an old steam locomotive. After all, there might be plenty of walking ahead of you yet, either around Laugharne (35 minutes) to see the castle and Dylan Thomas Boathouse or the National Coracle Centre at Cenarth Falls (25 minutes), where there are little round boats from both Wales and the rest of the world.
