  • Log cabin near Newcastle Emlyn, with views over three Welsh counties
  • Half an hour’s drive to Cardigan Bay; Cenarth Falls 55 minutes’ walk
  • Comfortable open-plan living space, plus a private patio and lawn
Looking to explore Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire all on one trip? That’ll be thumbs up for Terfyn Mawr, a holiday park close to the historic market town of Newcastle Emlyn, and handily placed for getting acquainted with all three counties. A smartly decorated log cabin awaits here for solo travellers or couples, with a kitchen kitted out with all mod cons and a breakfast bar with views over Pembrokeshire peaks. From there, the open-plan living space flows into a smart dining room and on to a cosy lounge with a pair of comfy sofas scattered with cuddly cushions, plus a TV for quiet downtime. The bright, airy bedroom comes with a king-size bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers for storing all your bits and pieces (plus a TV for lazy mornings), and after a day out on your Welsh adventures, you can luxuriate under the shower in the ensuite bathroom. On pleasant days, laze outside on the private patio or south-facing lawn prettily set with shrubs and flower beds and take in the uninterrupted views over the hills and valleys of the aforementioned three counties to the sea at Cemaes Head. Sitting on the River Teifi, Newcastle Emlyn (five minutes’ drive) is the place to go for supermarkets and a Friday farmers’ market if you’re self-catering, and plenty of restaurants, pubs or cafés if you’re not.

Local attractions

If you’re up for getting active, go coasteering around Cardigan Bay (half an hour’s drive), or paddling to hidden coves along the shores of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park (an hour). Ride out across moorland on horseback (45 minutes), or test your mountain-biking nerves on steep dust trails at Trydan Off Road Centre (10 minutes). After more suggestions? Fish for salmon and brown trout along the River Teifi (10 minutes), play golf on the championship course at Cardigan Golf Club (half an hour) or grab the walking boots and hike up to Cenarth Falls (55 minutes’ walk). Anyone in need of an animal fix can visit the gentle giants at Dyfed Shire Horse Farm (20 minutes’ drive), take a trek with the residents of Pembrokeshire Llamas (half an hour) or watch raptor flying displays at the National Botanic Garden of Wales (45 minutes). Need a wet-weather-day plan? Head for In The Welsh Wind Distillery (20 minutes) to explore the world of craft gin (and yes, tours end with tastings), or follow the process from fleece to fabric and admire the collection of textiles at the National Wool Museum (15 minutes).
