The Shepherd's Rest is a rural, off-grid and adults-only site on a 112-acre working sheep hill farm, to the west of the Brecon Beacons National Park and half an hour’s drive from Carmarthen. Completely off grid and with no electricity supply, the farm is a thriving wildlife and birdwatching haven with over 100 nest boxes and home to owls, kites, buzzards, ravens, woodpeckers and many more. By night, the skies here are clear for stargazing; barbecues are allowed. Stays are in the site meadows with streams, pools and a pond surrounded by hedgerows and native trees. Parking is in the first field and the site team can help guests move their kit. Amenities include a toilet pop-up tent, a shower, ice pack freezing and recycling facilities. Llandeilo town and its shops, eateries and two supermarkets is 15 minutes’ drive away.

Route directions

If your satnav takes you to Pany-Y-Ffynnon farm next door, you need to go down the hill, across the bridge and the site is the next turning on the left at the top of the hill. Nameplate Pistyll South is in place, also signed to Meadow Barn. Follow this road for half a mile and the gateway to the field is the first gate you come to on the lefthand side. In through this gate and then into the first field on the left.
