  • A 15-minute drive to the Brecon Beacons National Park; walks from site
  • Exclusive kitchen and bathroom adjacent; shops 10 minutes’ drive
Here’s a chance to get down with the sheep at Tunnel Glamping, where the cute and cosy Cwtch shepherd’s hut awaits in its own private paddock. It’s surrounded by fields full of sheep on a 15-acre former hill farm, and while dogs are very welcome, please keep them under tight control around the livestock. This comfy little pod is toasty thanks to a woodburning stove – keep it that way with kindling available to buy from the farm for a small nightly charge. Powered by electricity, the simple accommodation includes a double bed and drop-down table, while a kitchenette with hob, grill and fridge is in the facilities shed just a short walk away, also offering a hot shower, basin and loo. From the door of the hut, there are spectacular views across the valley towards the Brecon Beacons National Park, while from the side window you can see the stream forming the farm's boundary with Gethin Woods, a 2,000-acre forest that you are free to wander. On sunny days, enjoy those views from the splash pool in front of the hut. Situated on the edge of the national park, the town of Aberdare (10 minutes’ drive) has a variety of shops and supermarkets, a covered market and a sprinkling of food outlets.

The Cwtch shepherd's hut

Liked: Scenery, Peaceful, parking outside, bench.
Small shed with toilet, shower and kitchen. Separate small paddock.

Disliked: The hut and small shed would be better if leveled out slightly more.

Bed - could do with leveling as level with hills slope.

The Cwtch shepherd's hut

Liked: Location close to local amenities. Clean and tidy. We Brough 2 small dogs and the garden paddock in front is stock fenced so we didn't have to tie them up the whole time which they very much enjoyed. Would come back and highly recommend. The summer house was a hit in the evening.

The Cwtch shepherd's hut

Liked: Loved the privacy and view’s especially of an evening, we stayed there over bonfire night and we could see the whole town’s fireworks it was beautiful.
The fence paddock that the hit was in was great for our dog and the extra facilities for use during summer looked fun too.

The hut itself was immaculate as with the kitchen and bathroom shed that was exclusive use for the hut.

Disliked: The only slight moan was the mattress was too big for the frame and would have been nice if the frame was made to fit the mattress.

Just outside the farm there’s a network of footpaths, bridleways and mountain bike trails – no need to set foot (or wheel) on a road to get out into the great outdoors. BikePark Wales (25 minutes) offers downhill biking trails for all skill levels. A 15-minute drive leads to the Brecon Beacons National Park, with a mountain landscape leading up to Pen y Fan (45 minutes), the highest peak in southern Britain. If you want to improve your climbing or pot-holing skills before tackling the Brecon Beacons, indoor climbing facilities are just down the road at the Rock UK Summit Centre (25 minutes) in Trelewis. For gentler pursuits, freshwater fishing is available on Nant-y-Moel (45 minutes) and Meardy (20 minutes) reservoirs, or you can practise your swing at the golf course in Aberdare (10 minutes). If you fancy a day at the beach, you won’t beat the Gower Peninsula to the west of Swansea – start your tour in Mumbles (an hour) and end the day with a stroll along sandy Rhossili beach (an hour and a half) for views back to the Worms Head rock formation.
