  • Quiet tourer site on a North Wales farm 15 minutes’ drive from Wrexham
  • Pontcysyllte Aqueduct 20 minutes’ drive and Shrewsbury 35 minutes
  • Access to nearly 30 acres of private land with mowed paths; farm shop
Like the sound of days passed on jaunts that span two countries? If the answer is a definite yes, book a spot at Hill Farm, 15 minutes’ drive from Wrexham in North Wales and five minutes from the border with England. From there, it’s a doddle to get to Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (20 minutes), or whip into Shropshire for a day exploring historic Shrewsbury (35 minutes). Set on a hill with fabulous woodland and valley views, this peaceful tourer site offers up a handful of grass pitches in a small, secluded paddock and a glorious cottage garden to relax in. If you have kids in tow, they’ll surely love feeding the hens that range freely about the place (just ask the farmer for some grain). The campsite is steps away from a farm shop bursting with tasty local produce, which is open daily from 9am to 7pm – handy if you run out of supplies when making breakfast or supper. Guests also have access to nearly 30 acres of private land with mowed paths, making post-lunch strolls easy. There are convenience stores in Penley (five minutes) and Whitchurch (15 minutes), or you can head into Wrexham for major replenishment of provisions.

What customers say

Loved for its peaceful vibe, stunning views, and super-friendly hosts. Guests enjoyed the farm shop, animals, and private pitches. Some found poor phone signal a good way to disconnect. Single shower, occasional road noise but quiet at night. No washing-up sinks or bins.

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked We really enjoyed our stay at this campsite last year, so we decided to return again. It’s a lovely, quiet site with lots of space between pitches, which made it feel safe and gave our toddler plenty of room to play.
There was a lovely meadow walk to enjoy, and the owners were wonderful. They were friendly, always asking how we were and taking the time to have a chat.
The campsite was great for children, with tractors to watch, ducks and chickens to feed, a swing, and even a game of bowls to play. The facilities were simple but well kept, with one clean toilet available.
The whole site was beautifully maintained, with lots of flowers and very well-kept gardens. A peaceful and welcoming place to stay.

Unpowered grass motorhome site (adults only, private bathroom amenities)

Liked Daniel and Paul were great hosts. Very friendly. The site is so beautiful and the amenities were clean and tidy. There is a well stocked farm shop on site with fresh local produce.
The private bathroom is really nice. Spotlessly clean and they even provide towels.
Just a warning, I had no phone signal whatsoever. Not that it bothered me at all, but some people need a phone. Was nice to have a break from people.

Liked So peaceful, lovely little farm shop, really welcoming owners. A little gem! The meadows are beautiful, the little gardens so lovely. The perfect small farm campsite, lots of nice attention to detail. All very well put together. The Owners clearly have an eye for nice things and it shows!

Disliked Nothing. We liked it all. No showers but we knew that and didn’t care.

Liked Everything!
Honestly couldnt fault anything, the site was lovely and clean. Such a calm and relaxing place. The farm shop was gorgeous, had a good selection of things to purchase. Hosts were lovely and easy to talk too. There were lots of chickens and geese onsite which was really cool too. Really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back again in the future & stay longer next time.

Liked Loved this little piece of heaven , lovely host very picturesque and lovely peaceful small campsite , farm shop is very very reasonable pricing steaks eat good value lovely fresh eggs and hand patted butter will definitely be going back it was fantastic would definitely recommend

Disliked only 1 shower and it’s booked out for full length of a persons stay and so means other 10 pitches Have no showering facilities, maybe better booking time slots available to all campers, then I think it would be perfect

Local attractions

There’s a brace of National Trust-owned sites to look up: Erddig Hall (20 minutes’ drive) is open for guided tours of the stately red-brick manor house and fine formal gardens, while Chirk Castle (25 minutes) is an interesting mash-up of defence fortress and sumptuous 18th-century apartments. There’s more unusual architecture at late-medieval Plas Newydd Historic House (25 minutes), which was remodelled as a half-timbered mansion in the 1930s. A scenic walk across Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (20 minutes) takes in views of Llangollen Canal and the River Dee, or you can see more of the Denbighshire countryside while riding the heritage steam train on Llangollen Railway (25 minutes). Over the border in Blighty, take the kids to watch raptor displays at Shropshire Falconry (25 minutes), or hire a barge for the day at Whixall Marina (20 minutes) to float gently down the Prees Branch of the Llangollen Canal. Another option is to head for Shrewsbury (35 minutes) and have a poke around the red-stone castle and its Shropshire Regimental Museum or take a wander along the River Severn in The Quarry park.
