Local attractions

It’s easy to get out and about on cultural forays, what with National Trust-owned medieval Chirk Castle being 10 minutes’ walk away across its deer park and neatly manicured grounds scattered with topiary. Another National Trust property nearby is Erddig (25 minutes’ drive), a Georgian estate open for tours of its manor house and formal gardens. The campsite is set within the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley National Landscape, with easy access to Ceiriog Valley (20 minutes) for waterside rambles or the Shropshire Union Canal towpath for gentle family adventures. You can find more kid-friendly strolls as well as picnic spots in Tŷ Mawr Country Park (15 minutes). Chirk Aqueduct and Viaduct (five minutes) forms part of the UNESCO-listed Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (10 minutes) complex spanning the Dee Valley. You can cross both soaring bridges by canal boat from Llangollen, or discover the region in the comfort of a Llangollen Railway steam train (both 20 minutes).
