  • Dog-friendly touring pitches at a working farm in central Anglesey
  • Rhosneigr beach 10 minutes' drive; Beaumaris and Benllech 25 minutes
  • Horses, chickens and sheep on site; pub and shop five minutes' walk
Come for the farmyard fun – stay for the walks, beach days, watersports, family attractions… Maes Carafanau Penbryn Caravan Site is part of a working farm in the village of Gwalchmai, and it’s a fabulous spot indeed for families, couples and solo visitors alike. As you may expect from a farm, there’s lovely green scenery all around here, with paths leading directly from the site to some scenic walking and bike trails. And of course there are farm animals too – this place is home to chickens, sheep, horses and ponies. Facilities here include a play area for the kids and a dog field where visiting canines can have a good run about. There’s also a well-equipped modern bathroom block with toilets, showers, an accessible/family bathroom and a washing-up area. An Elsan point and grey waste point are also provided, and there are picnic tables for your meals (perhaps cooked on a barbecue, which you’re welcome to bring along). The village centre is five minutes’ walk away for a shop, pub and bus stop. This is a rural location, but it’s also a strategic one for getting out to explore all that Anglesey has to offer. It’s fairly central within the island, and nearby access to the A5 and A55 means that it’s easy to get to whichever attractions and activities you’d like to fill your days with – even Beaumaris, at the far eastern end of the island, is only 25 minutes’ drive away.

Liked All lovely. Cental location. Obviously new site. When the young trees and shrubs have matured it will be even nicer.
Immaculate, well furbished modern toilet and showers with spacious cubicles. Particularly liked the music in there.
Run by a friendly couple who both came over for a chat. Zoe was like the dog whisperer with our anxious, reactive old dog.

Disliked Showers were a bit hot for our liking.

Perfect base for exploring Anglesey.

Power optional grass site

Liked Stayed here for a week while walking the Anglesey coast and what a perfect base it was! Zoe and Iolo are the most amazing hosts who seem to always be on hand to help/advise you. This site is very new - only opened at the end of May, and while a few bits and pieces are still being finished off, the site as I saw it was fantastic and can only improve with their planned additions. Each pitch has its own water and electric supply if needed (even for tents!), there’s a utility room with local leaflets, communal fridge and kettle, shower/toilet facilities are currently unisex while a second shower room is being finished off, as is a family room. WiFi and laundry facilities are on the cards for a later date. Loved staying here - highly recommend, will definitely return!

Liked We had a lovely 2 days stay at the site.

Zoe and the family were very welcoming and helpful. They have clearly spent a lot of time and money developing a very impressive site, the pitch was perfectly flat and the grass around the site very well manicured.

The toilet/shower facilities were also very well done, clean, bright and well equipped.

We will certainly be visiting again.

Liked Such a beautiful site - a real gem in a fab location. It was so peaceful and served as the ideal base for exploration.
The family who own it were all so helpful, aiding us in positioning our caravan and coming to the rescue when our awning collapsed in the wind.
The facilities are brand new and absolutely immaculate.
The on-site farm animals are a lovely addition and young visitors loved the opportunity to feed the chickens and collect eggs to enjoy at breakfast.
It was the perfect weekend break and we only wish we could’ve stayed for longer.

Liked Clean and peaceful site. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The scenery was lovely, with horses and sheep in nearby fields, plus rabbits playing in the morning.Shower blocks were very clean.... Did have Christmas music playing in the shower/ toilet block on one occasion... Which I didn't mind 😆.

Unpowered grass site

Liked A small family run campsite with friendly staff. Toilet block was very clean and smelled lovely. Showers had a large cubicle with ample room to get changed. The shower head was amazing and great hot temperature. Pitches were pretty level. Enclosed dog exercise area and surrounded by farm life. Local takeaways deliver to your pitch.

Disliked Would be great if they had a freezer for ice packs. Otherwise no complaints.

Local attractions

Anglesey is an island, of course, so the coast is always a big draw. You may like to seek out natural attractions like South Stack island (25 minutes’ drive), head to beaches like Rhosneigr (10 minutes) and Benllech (25 minutes) or take a boat ride from Beaumaris (25 minutes) to Puffin Island. For walkers, there’s always the option of a jaunt along the Anglesey Coastal Path (or part of it anyway – the whole thing is about 135 miles long). The colourful surroundings of former copper mine Parys Mountain (half an hour) are also lovely to walk through, or you could head to Newborough (20 minutes) to walk through the pine forest to the beach and out to Ynys Llanddwyn. Beaumaris Castle (25 minutes) and Plas Newydd House and Gardens (20 minutes) are top picks for historic buildings to visit; for family days out, try Pili Palas Nature World (15 minutes), Anglesey Sea Zoo (25 minutes) or GreenWood Family Park (25 minutes).
