  • Peaceful site a five-minute drive from Llangefni, in central Anglesey
  • Beaumaris Castle 25 minutes’ drive; Portmeirion one hour
  • Rural surrounding; dogs welcome; charging facilities
Gently floating off the shores of the northern reaches of Wales, the ancient island of Anglesey is a splendid spot for a whole range of outdoor breaks. And in the middle of the island, a few minutes’ drive from the A5 and A55 (aka the North Wales Expressway), is Ty’n Cae, a peaceful site that puts a whole host of brilliant beaches, castles and villages within your reach. Ty’n Cae sits in the small village of Rhostrehwfa, about a mile and a half (a five-minute drive, or a half-hour walk) from the slightly larger town of Llangefni, where there are shops, cafés and pubs. Also in town is the Nant y Pandy nature reserve, a peaceful boardwalk through a wildlife haven where you can also join the Lon Las Cefni cycle route. Back at base, you’ll be settling down on well-maintained grounds that are surrounded by wildlife and greenery. Ty’n Cae is the kind of laid-back place where you can bring the family along (including the dog, if you’ve got one) and gather around a barbecue while the sun goes down… The grass pitching field is set over a gentle slope and all guests have access to basic facilities including clean toilets (some of the composting kind) and hot showers. Chemical waste disposal, charging and recycling facilities are also available.

Cosy, friendly campsite, great base for Anglesey. Spotless showers/toilets (some queues!), helpful owners. Kids' playground & animals. Peaceful, well-kept, with many wanting to return.

Power optional grass site

Liked Quietness, people were respectful of the quiet hours, it's a basic camp site, good views, small.

Disliked Perhaps a shelter over the sink area for washing up as open and exposed and having the washing machine and fridge in an more accesssable area as when someone is in there using shower or toilet you can't gain access. No WiFi.

Liked Small compact site close to nant y pandy park run

Disliked Wasn’t keen on the toilet and shower situation. Overall they were clean but needed doing up.
Also the fact that they weren’t separate male and female didn’t work well for me

Power optional grass site

Liked The host Linda was very friendly and welcoming, the toilet/shower facilities were always clean and toilet rolls replenished, there was a washing machine available to use for a small fee and also a freezer that we could use which was great for the kids ice pops, there is also a playground to keep the young ones active.

Disliked nothing

Power optional grass site

Liked Electric pitch and nice view

Disliked Always a que for the toilet as they weren't separate from showers ans there's only 2. No confirmation on tent pitch on arrival and contact was impossible so just had to guess and hope we didn't get moved . They then came around in the evening to collect money but other than that contact was impossible so I wouldn't stay again or rate the experience

From the manager: There are 4 toilets on site and very rarely a queue, especially during the quiet period that they were on site. Unfortunately it seems the customer provided the wrong contact details and despite several attempts I was unable to contact them before arrival. I did send an email and a text with pitch and site details but did not get any response.

Power optional grass site

Liked Good friendly host

Clear communication of pitch and what to do

Greeted is when she arrived home

Great view and sunset over horses field

Disliked Close to road - slight worried about leaving bikes

Two fields - totalling 18 pitches, this felt small, worsened by the fact that pitches were allowed to have multiple hosts (unsure if host was aware) eg two pitches had 4 x 6 man tents, 1 large gazebo and a 12 sitter mini bus

Another pitch had two cars and one tent

Toilets - there were two toilets with showers in and two toilet without showers, which when toilet was blocked left queuing for both

Local attractions

Overlooking the Menai Strait, Beaumaris Castle (25 minutes’ drive) is an unfinished fortress built by Edward I between the 1290s and the 1320s. A UNESCO World Heritage site (along with the castles at Conwy, Caernarfon and Harlech), it features four formidable rings of fortifications. Traeth Llanddwyn (25 minutes) is a sandy beach backed by vegetation-rich dunes that are home to assorted birdlife. The beach is sheltered from Atlantic currents by the Llanddwyn Island, which is peppered with historical remains, from Celtic crosses to watchtowers and the remains of an ancient church. Portmeirion (one hour), on the estuary of the Afon Dwyrid river, is a pretty Italianate village built in the 20th century. Buy a gelato, take a stroll in the piazza, lined with pastel-coloured buildings, and pretend you’re on the Amalfi Coast…
