  • Well-maintained family site just over a mile from Tywyn
  • In the Snowdonia National Park half an hour's drive from Dolgellau
  • Access to woodland walks and fishing on the Dysynni river
Calling all walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, beachgoers… there's a lovely base for all of you at Ynysymaengwyn Caravan and Camping Park, in the grounds of a ruined old manor house in rural Gwynedd, just over a mile from Tywyn and its beach. This is a peaceful spot indeed for a break, as the pitches are surrounded by woodland where you can head out for walks (with your dog by your side if you’ve brought them along for the ride) or follow the orienteering course for a bit more of a challenge. There's also an adventure playground to keep the kids busy, plus access to the Dysynni river at the bottom of the site for anglers to fish for salmon and trout. This is a park that likes to keep things simple and relaxed rather than providing lots of entertainment, but it’s got all the essential facilities sorted including a launderette, an Elsan point and toilets and showers with accessible facilities. The location of the park is at the southern tip of the Snowdonia National Park and very close to the coast, so there’s no shortage of things to do – whether you’d like hardcore hiking or something rather more gentle. And you shouldn’t go hungry either, as Tywyn has a good collection of places to eat including cafés, chip shops, takeaways and restaurants. The town also has a supermarket and bakery if you’d rather sort your own meals back at base or pick up picnic bits.

Power optional grass caravan site

Liked Lovely campsite with great views, fishing onsite, friendly owners and a fantastic adventure park for younger and older children. Loads of space for the kids to play.

Disliked Just a wee big too far out of the town for us, but we knew that when we booked.

Will be back next year . Enjoy your winter break as you work hard .

Liked Beautiful location with lovely views and fantastic walks from the site through woodland and along the river into Tywyn. Friendly site managers who were really helpful and great communication. Clean toilets and showers and a good number for the size of the site. Excellent value.

Power optional grass tent site (maximum 6-berth)

Liked - great for young children, our kids loved the park, the woodlands and the fairy bit. There’s also a sport area that’s sectioned off with no dogs allowed which is great.
- shower / toilet facilities are reasonable, clean and showers were hot.
- easy check in and out process
- staff were really friendly
- The history of the estate is really interesting and good to see some of the ruins of the mansion previously there.
- few miles to beach and close to other local attractions.

Disliked Can’t think of anything. We love coming here with the boys for a weekend. If I had to say something it’s that the wifi didn’t work but didn’t impact our stay

Amazing place highly recommended. Will be returning.

Local attractions

As well as being your nearest source of food, Tywyn’s a great little seaside town with a sandy beach, miniature golf, pitch and putt and tennis courts. It’s also the starting point for the Talyllyn Railway, which runs into the countryside for a scenic ride – a particularly nice way to do it is to ride to Dolgoch and walk to its waterfall before a cuppa in the tea rooms. Walkers may like to set out on the Wales Coast Path or head inland for a wander along the shores of Tal-y-llyn lake (15 minutes’ drive), scramble up the slopes of Penygader (20 minutes) or head to the walking hub of Dolgellau (half an hour) to explore the trails around there. Mountain bikers, meanwhile, will no doubt want to tackle the trails of Coed-y-Brenin (45 minutes) while birdwatchers learn about the residents of Dyfi Osprey Project (half an hour). Once you’ve spent some time on the sands of Tywyn, head a little further along the coast to explore the dunes of Ynyslas Nature Reserve and see the petrified forest at Borth (both 45 minutes).
