Greenacres Holiday Park

Guests can stroll straight from Greenacres Holiday Park onto the picturesque Llyn Peninsula coastal path, which travels 95 miles through diverse terrain including mud flats, hidden coves and craggy cliffs. Naturally there is spectacular walking inland, too, thanks to the breathtakingly dramatic scenery of Snowdonia National Park: lofty peaks, plunging river gorges and verdant valleys, dotted with lovely waterfalls. Train buffs (and Thomas the Tank Engine fans) are spoiled for choice when it comes to scenic heritage railways. The Ffestiniog Railway twists and turns its way for 13.5 miles through the mountains between Porthmadog harbour and Blaenau Ffestiniog, and the steam locomotives of the Welsh Highland Railway take a stunning 25-mile route from Caernarfon to Porthmadog, via the foothills of Snowdon and the beautiful Aberglaslyn Pass. Finally, at Llanberis you can pick up the Snowdon Mountain Railway, which will magic you directly to the top of Wales’s highest mountain, via a couple of dazzling viaducts, a waterfall and an ancient forest. Visitors to the Great Orme Copper Mines in Llandudno can walk through tunnels and caverns created by our prehistoric ancestors an astonishing 4,000 years ago (even more astoundingly, they mined with tools made only of bone and stone). There’s plenty in this area for adventurous types: quad biking, wakeboarding and go karting at Glasfryn Adventure Park, 12 miles from Greenacres Holiday Park; and brave surfers and kayakers can stare into “Hell’s Mouth”, at the beach at Porth Neigwl, Llanengan, named for its fiercely wild waters. Alternatively, at the indoor Sun Centre in Rhyl, there are all sorts of man-made watery thrills, from the rush and tumble of the Black Thunder chute, to tropical storms and mega waves in the indoor surfing pool, and plenty of slides for little ones too. Other recommended places to visit include the walled fortress town of Conwy, whose medieval castle glowers majestically from its rock above the estuary; the ancient bridges and cascading waterways of the popular inland resort of Betws-y-Coed; classy Caernarfon, a lively market town dominated by the most famous castle in Wales; and the immaculate Italianate spendour of the seaside village of Portmeirion.
