  • Family-owned Snowdonia site near the shore of Bala Lake
  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

What customers say

Pen Y Bont Caravan Park gets props for great, modern facilities, super clean loos, and friendly staff. Lovely spot near Bala Lake and town, with spacious pitches. Peaceful vibe, tidy grounds, handy shop. Mostly ace, but some note road noise and patchy WiFi.

8M fully-serviced concrete slab caravan site

Liked Loved it here. It was beautiful and clean.
The grass was cut and lush and green, perfect size pitch.
I loved that the toilets and showers didn't close down each day at a certain time, they were always accessible.
Also the Short walk into town and to Bala lake was perfect

Disliked I wish the water to wash the dishes was a little warmer

Fully-serviced concrete slab caravan site (large)

Liked Well kept site with good, clean facilities

Disliked Very noisy pitch that backed onto a busy road so not the tranquil, relaxing stay that was described on the website. Unable to sit outside the caravan because of the aforementioned intrusive road noise.

Fully-serviced concrete slab caravan site (large)

Liked It's a lovely site and location for the lake and surounding scenery. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Ideal location for enjoying paddleboarding or kayaking on water.

Disliked Washing and toilet facilities were let down by people leaving them in a dirty state and not cleaning up after themselves. Need to be checked more often.
People not having respect for your pitch space by taking short cuts through your pitch.
Large pitch size was in my opinion a standard pitch. Caravan awning overlapped the raised timber edging, that devided the gravel and grass area making it a trip hazard.
Large family groups and dogs crammed in on one pitch next to you can be overwhelming.

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
