  • Family-run farm with a dog-friendly site in Llandegla
  • On the Offa’s Dyke Path, 15 minutes’ drive from Llangollen
  • Walk to the village shop and café; mountain biking trails nearby
Wave hi to the gorgeous North Wales countryside, where Llyn Rhys Campsite will introduce you to outdoor pursuits in the Clwydian Range and horse-drawn canal boat rides at a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A 15-minute drive away from Llangollen and the UNESCO-listed Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Llyn Rhys Campsite is on a family-run farm in Llandegla with easy access off the A5104. This is an excellent place to make your acquaintance with walking, biking and other outdoor pursuits. Five minutes’ drive away from the farm is a mountain biking trail centre with mountain biking, trail running and walking trails for all abilities and a café. Very conveniently, the Offa’s Dyke Path, tracing the Wales and England border, passes through the middle of the farm too. For other days out, ask the site to help you plan more walks, as there are plenty to choose from. Really, what a spot… Llyn Rhys Campsite is at the start of the Clwydian Range, a series of hills in northeast Wales running down to Prestatyn. The highest point is the popular Moel Famau, 25 minutes’ drive away. In the opposite direction, Llangollen is in the middle of the Dee Valley, where there are more stunning landscapes. In Llandegla Forest (15 minutes’ drive), the RSPB also organises nightjar and black grouse walks during the spring. This friendly site has well-maintained facilities including showers, toilets and a washing-up room. There’s plenty of space in the almost-flat fields, including for dogs. Campfires are welcome; rent a fire basket and buy some wood to set yourself up for a cosy eve. There’s wifi, a village shop and café 15 minutes’ walk away and four towns within driving distance for other supplies.

Liked: This was a beautiful site located near to various places (Llangollen, Wrexham, Chester - we even went to Llandudno which was an hour away)
The site was very quiet apart from the sheep which you could hear most of the night 😂 can’t complain though.
The toilets and pot wash facilities were good and the owners were lovely.
Nice area of grass for us to play games. Fire pits available upon request
We also ate at the pub a few mins walk away - very nice.

Disliked: Showers were ok - warm and powerful but struggled with where to put our things unless we were in the family room. There boxes but they were wet. Showers in the cubicle didn’t drain properly sometimes.
Located near a road which can be noisy and also under a flight path - not much can be done but just so that campers are aware.

Liked: The campsite is beautifully maintained and clean, the toilets and shower block are lovely and cleaned regularly.
The owner is friendly and fair, there are rules but I was grateful for them! Pub down the road was nice! The weather was rubbish but that’s nobody’s fault 😂

Disliked: Not so much a dislike but worth mentioning at night there is an atv that drives around quiet late and unfortunately it is quiet loud in the electric hook up part of the field.

From the manager: Thank you, Babs, for your very kind review, we are very pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. I should have made everyone aware staying last weekend that the atv circulating late is because we are lambing and if a sheep or her lambs are in distress they have to be brought in to receive attention.
Also, late on Saturday night we lost our 9-week-old sheepdog puppy so we were all scurrying around trying to find her. Eventually when I walked around the camp field early Sunday morning, she popped her head out from under a campervan, relief for all of us. We think she had totally lost her bearings and tucked herself away until she recognised one of us.
We apolologise for the disturbance, lambing lasts for approximately a month and occasionally we have to fetch some sheep in.
Thank you again
Christine

Liked: Lovely small site , sunset, views, friendly owner, pub close by, clean facilities, quiet site

Disliked: A bit of road noise as close to main road. Young kids being asked to stop playing football at 8pm when just having innocent fun. I do understand why though. Maybe 9pm would be a compromise during light nights. Overall tho defo worth a visit if want peace and quiet.

Liked: Llyn Rhys was an ideal location for our roof-tent-one-night-stop-over. There are so many… places to visit / things to do… within a short distance of the site, we will definitely be booking again for an extended stay. The site owner could not have been more helpful, a massive plus for us. Our pitch was level and the washroom facilities at the site were easily accessible and kept immaculately. Excellent value!

Local attractions

Where might a five-minute drive get you? To fisheries, Llandegla Laser Combat and the Fauxdegla Shooting Ground for quick entertainment, perhaps. Llangollen (15 minutes' drive) is tempting too, whether for steam train trips and horse-drawn canal boats over the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct or festivals like the International Musical Eisteddfod, Llangollen Food Festival and Llangollen Fringe Festival. For urban action, Bala (35 minutes) is a historic market town with watersports activities and the Vale of Clwyd (from 15 minutes) has more historic market towns, including Ruthin, Denbigh and St Asaph. Catch a theatre show in Mold (20 minutes) or the footie in Wrexham (20 minutes), before hitting up the cities. Chester (35 minutes) has Roman walls, a cathedral, the Rows shopping street and a Roman amphitheatre, while Liverpool (an hour) has several Beatles locations to visit. At Zip World Fforest (50 minutes), you might conquer a fear or two on Europe’s highest swing and the 21 zipwires and rope bridges that make up their treetop adventure course.
