  • Scenic and remote-feeling Mid Wales glamping site
  • Clywedog Reservoir and Snowdonia walks within a 45-minute drive
  • Proper beds and firepit for each unit; communal cooking/eating lodge
Adventure awaits at Cledan Valley, hidden away in what the owners describe as ‘the wilds of Mid Wales’ – this is the kind of peaceful rural place that’s all about letting the kids build dens, hunt for bugs and follow treasure hunts, or simply for the grownups to chill out and soak up the spectacular green scenery that this area is known for. And comfort awaits too, because the glamping units at this Powys smallholding have been set up to provide cosy and comfy stays for all guests – proper beds, cooking facilities, lanterns and pretty furnishings come as standard, whichever unit you pick. Outside, each one has a barbecue/firepit with firewood provided, and you’ll also be able to use the communal lodge, which has a covered cooking/eating area as well as plenty of games and toys for the kids. Bathroom facilities have been nicely done out, as well – the shared toilet block has flushing toilets and a compost toilet along with powerful hot showers fed by spring water. There’s also a disabled-access wetroom, and the whole lot is cleaned daily to keep it in tiptop shape. There’s a real rural vibe here, with gorgeous green views all around and llamas, ducks and chickens to meet on site. It’s not quite as remote as you might think, however – in fact, it’s easily accessed from the A470 a mile away. Your nearest pub and food shop are in Carno, 35 minutes' walk away. The nearby villages of Caersws and Llanbrynmair (both 15 minutes’ drive) have more pubs and shops.

What customers say

A peaceful, off-grid escape with spacious tents and glamping. Hosts are super friendly, facilities are well-equipped, and showers are great. Kids love treasure hunts and animals. Phone signal can be patchy, and the road's bumpy, but the secluded setting is a big draw, with many returning guests.

Tawny Owl bell tent

Liked It was very peaceful, and the tent was clean. The host was friendly and the site is a real secluded paradise on the outside.

Disliked We really didn't enjoy our stay, cut our loses didn't stay for the full time we booked. One night was enough. The tent was bitterly cold. No form of heating at all available and no electricity. The closest toilet was a compost toilet which is as terrible as it sounds. And you walk in dead darkness to get to anything when the sun goes down. But in all fairness to the host, all of this was as advertised. The pictures are a bit misleading though as you see a proper flushing toilet, and a wood stove inside a tent, but this is only for selected ones. So I booked based on the images. But after reading carefully, this was all advertised. I'm still quite disappointed, but this one was on me I guess. Know what you're getting into before you go.

From the manager: It is regrettable that this customer did not read the full description of this tent, nor the Joining Pack we send out once we receive a booking. This helps customers understand what we provide, the proximity of our different facilities and what we recommend guests bring with them particulstly for those who are not regular campers! As a result they have clearly arrived under-prepared for the conditions and with expectations that would never be met by an off grid bell tent in a beautiful but unspoilt corner of Mid Wales. I particularly am sad that they did not discuss their problems with me before leaving (without telling us) as I would have been able to support them with further solar lighting and bedding packs. We had in fact slept onsite in a bell tent ourselves that night with our own young ones (2 and 5) and it was a cold night but with the right clothing and bedding/sleeping bags we were comfortable and enjoyed quality controlling our own tent! This family would probably have been happier in our yurts which do have wood burners and more lighting and bedding included- a gentler introduction to camping for inexperienced families!

Definitely recommend
