  • Small, quiet and dog-friendly pop-up site in the upper Severn Valley
  • Walking distance from the Montgomery Canal for cycling and walking
  • Access to the river Severn for fishing; Offa Dyke’s Path further out
Pop down to this quiet pop-up site in the gorgeous Mid Wales landscapes… within walking distance of the Montgomery Canal, you'll be well-set for cycles and strolls along the towpath from Bron Hafren Campsite. That’s not all, though - this small, dog-friendly site also has access to the river Severn. So, wander there with your EA fishing license and rod for day’s fishing or pack a picnic to sit and spy on the wildlife. Goods can be gathered from the nearest shop in Montgomery, five minutes’ drive away, in the market towns of Welshpool (10 minutes’ drive) and Newtown (15 minutes) or a shopping centre around 10 minutes’ drive away. Other splendid options for eating out include the restaurant alongside the local golf course, around 10 minutes’ walk away from the site, or a bar and restaurant 10 minutes’ wander away. If you’d rather work up an appetite first, longer hikes can be sought out on the Severn Way or the Offa’s Dyke Path (running past the other side Montgomery, around 10 minutes’ drive away). After pedals, rather? The Route 44 cycle path also runs past Montgomery, so you'll be there in no time. Handily, this remote pop-up site welcomes dogs (as long as they’re kept on a lead). There are plenty of birds and wildlife around the woods along the river Severn walk, and great views of hills from the site itself, so you should be in for quite a peaceful time. In terms of facilities, guests here have access to a chemical disposal point.

Local attractions

You might like to make the most of being so close to Montgomery (five minutes’ drive). With its attractive Georgian buildings and ruined castle, an afternoon is well spent in this town. The same can be said about Berriew (five minutes’ drive), a village with black and white cottages and the Andrew Logan Museum of Sculpture. While you’re looking for things to do around the theme of history, the National Trust’s Powis Castle and Garden (15 minutes) has plenty, as a medieval fortress with Italianate gardens and The Clive Museum collections. Another top spot for history buffs is the ruin of Dolforwyn Castle (10 minutes). Sweet times are also to be expected in Snowdonia National Park (an hour and half’s drive or so) - outdoor activities in particular. Otherwise, one way to take in the stunning Welsh countryside is on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway (20 minutes), a historic gauge steam train with a 16-mile journey. If it’s the coast that you’re craving instead, Aberystwyth is an hour and 20 minutes’ drive from the site, and a train service from Welshpool (10 minutes’ drive) will get you there in an hour and a half.
