  • Family-friendly site on the edge of Eryri National Park
  • Machynlleth five minutes’ drive; Aberystwyth 25 minutes
  • Fishing pond; playground; a five-minute walk from Dyfi Wildlife Centre
With Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) right on its doorstep and the beaches of Cardigan Bay less than half an hour’s drive away, Morben Isaf Caravan Park ought to appeal to those who can never quite make up their mind between hiking holidays and seaside breaks. But the real ace up Morben Isaf’s sleeve is its proximity (a mere five-minute walk) to the Dyfi Wildlife Centre – Cors Dyfi, where you can admire nesting ospreys, as well as a family of beavers. If even that five-minute walk sounds like too much effort, rejoice, for there is a nature reserve inside the park, and you might be able to spot raptors hovering in mid-air from the bird hide. Morben Isaf is five minutes’ drive from the market town of Machynlleth. In addition to pitches with far-reaching views of the Welsh countryside, it has a well-maintained toilet/shower block (including a wetroom for guests with mobility issues), a launderette and a communal fridge freezer. While the kids spend time in the playground (plus an area for ball games, complete with a hoop), the adults can find their moment of Zen, rod in hand, on the banks of the fishing pond. If you're a keen mountain biker, Coed y Brenin (50 minutes) has trails suitable for all levels; and if you are an expert MTB-er, you might want to have a go at the hair-raising tracks at Dyfi Bike Park (10 minutes). The bike-wash facility on site ought to get rid of every speck of dirt on your mudguards.

Liked Hospitality was impeccable! Greeted with smiling faces, they went above our expectations, providing us with an upgrade and even lending us some garden furniture!

I mentioned I was visiting with the purpose of going to the Mach Loop and was soon introduced to fellow aviation fanatics.

Absolutely breath taking views, gleaming facilities and top notch customer services - super affordable too!!

Absolute bonus if you're into birds too - there's a bird hide!! Jays, Kingfishers, Woodpeckers, all sorts to see. Plus you're right next to the Osprey Centre, a stones throw away!

Can't recommend enough. Best campsite I've been to.

Why are you still reading this?...Book it already!

Disliked That I only booked 1 night, wish I'd have booked a longer stay.

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback, much appreciated. Sounds like it was a busy day on the Mach Loop - hope your day was as good as you had hoped! We are glad you enjoyed your stay - hopefully see you again.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site (large)

Liked A gem of a site. Well kept, clean and with lovely walks and a super bird watching hide all on the site. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Dyfi Osprey project next door with an easy path straight to it.

Disliked No pubs or anywhere to buy provisions nearby and main road not safe to walk, but these are minor issues if you plan in advance.

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback, much appreciated. We are glad you enjoyed your stay - hopefully see you again.

Liked Very well maintained and beautifully laid out site with far reaching views. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Lots to see in the surrounding area and a bus stop just outside.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site (large)

Liked Location, facilities clean, hot water and washing up area.

Disliked Showers turned off after what seemed like seconds. Had to pay for an additional night even though we left due to my husband hurting his back, couldn't sit and could barely walk.

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to leave a review - sorry that you were not satisfied with some aspects of the Park and Service we provide. If you had mentioned your concerns during your stay we would have endeavoured to resolve any issues. We have had no other reports about the showers shutting off after a few seconds; they have been serviced just this week by MIRA engineers with no problems reported. Also, we did not charge you for an additional night, it was solely your choice to leave a day early due to your husbands unfortunate bad back. You didn't mention or request a refund, only that you were going home a day earlier than you'd booked. We hope your husband is now fully recovered. Sorry again that you did not enjoy your stay.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked I had a fantastic 4 night break at Morben Isaf which is set in beautifully manicured grounds next to the Dyfi Osprey Centre. All of the management and staff on site were very helpful and friendly and went the extra mile to ensure my stay there was extremely comfortable. The shower and toilet facilities were of a very high standard and exceptionally clean at all times. The site is on a main bus route with regular buses to Aberystwyth, Machynlleth and beyond and I found it an ideal place to stay whilst completing sections of the Welsh Coastal Path and visiting the local area. As a 65 year old backpacker I have stayed on many sites over the years and Morben Isaf has got to be a new favourite and I would highly recommend it.

Disliked Nothing to dislike only having to pack up to return home.

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback, much appreciated. Hope the knee and hip are better! We are glad you enjoyed your stay - hopefully see you again.

Liked Lovely clean site beautifully maintained with good access to local area.
On site walks excellent with amazing bird hide.

Disliked Only downside is the noise from the busy road due to the proximity of the pitches.

Local attractions

After the ospreys of Dyfi Wildlife Centre, get to know the waders and ducks at RSPB Ynys-hir (10 minutes’ drive). With habitats ranging from woodlands and grasslands to saltmarshes and reedbeds, this vast reserve is also home to otters and lizards. Ynys-hir runs a series of activities, including a dawn chorus event and a bug safari. King Arthur’s Labyrinth (15 minutes) spreads underground just outside the town of Corris. A hooded boatman welcomes you on his vessel and takes you sailing on a subterranean river. During this cruise, you learn about Welsh legends featuring dragons (of course…), giants and other mythical creatures. With two beaches, Aberystwyth (25 minutes) is a popular destination in the summer months. When you’re all swum or body-boarded out, take the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway to the top of Constitution Hill for expansive views and a game of miniature golf.
