  • Basic family-friendly campervan site in the Dyfi Valley lowlands
  • A five-minute drive from Dyfi Bike Park and Machynlleth
  • Firepits permitted, with logs available to buy on site
Off to the dreamy Dyfi Valley? Then set your sights on Graig Ddu, a handy family-friendly campervan site in the valley’s lowlands. This simple family-friendly spot is just a five-minute drive from two of the valley’s famed spots… The first of those is the Dyfi Bike Park in Esgair Forest, which has a whopping 650 acres of twists and turns for mountain bikers to tear up. Second up is the town of Machynlleth, the valley’s big creative community hub and your go-to for snacks, supplies and eating out (and remember that it’s market day on Wednesdays). Those are two of the closest spots, but Graig Ddu’s friendly and knowledgeable hosts will also happily point you in the direction of other spectacular valley locations. The small site is on a family-run working farm, so setting out into the surrounding countryside is always a good jaunt. Relaxing, peaceful and with chilled vibes… check, check, check. Evenings around the fire, too? Those also have the green light: firepits are permitted and logs are handily available to buy on site. As for facilities, the site has a clean toilet and shower block and a drinking water station (but please note there are no electric hook-ups or chemical waste disposal points). Pets are very welcome at Graig Ddu.

Local attractions

Start exploring close to base or go straight to the river mouth, where Aberdyfi (20 minutes’ drive) has a long stretch of sandy beach and waves that encourage adventurous folk to go sailing, windsurfing or kitesurfing. If you’re keen to stay more local, your first stop might be the Centre for Alternative Technology (five minutes). The eco centre’s aim is to get more and more people living sustainably, and the woodlands and wild gardens there have gorgeous picnic areas. Good contenders for the next visit are the Corris Craft Centre (10 minutes), which runs craft workshops, or King Arthur's Labyrinth (10 minutes), a family-friendly underground attraction that tells Welsh legends. Main characters in the attraction include a gang of giants and dragons as well as King Arthur himself. The Dyfi Osprey Project (10 minutes) is home to creatures whose existence is definitely truth rather than legend. Its family of Welsh ospreys make essential viewing for keen wildlife watchers or those who want to bag their first time seeing the birds of prey in flight.

Unpowered concrete slab motorhome site

Liked: Clean toilet and shower unit (unit more than block) Water.
Picnic benches

Disliked: I was the only person there and felt very vulnerable and happy to have a dog. Didn't meet the owners, but they sounded nice on phone. Didn't know where the farm house was - could only see outbuildings. It was more like a gravel road than a campsite - high trees and bushes either side, which made it quite dark. Shame as the views through the bushes across the fields was lovely . I think it was quite expensive compared to other places I had stayed in with more facilitiies including electric. It is a good pit stop but at half the price.

Unpowered concrete slab motorhome site

Liked: Really good value, lovely warm shower / toilet block , very clean , nice and flat , very sheltered from wind , great base for exploring surrounding area (lots of stuff to do) , owners are really friendly, welcoming and easy going. Site is relatively new but has massive potential! Would absolutely recommend ! Thanks farmer Will and family for the warm welcome .hope to be back at some point when we are your way in the future ! Cheers Fliss, George and Arthur

Disliked: Surrounded by beautiful countryside but unfortunately it is obscured by a row of large bushes . Site hasn't been open long but if those trees were pruned down to a level where you could see over the fields it would be second to non!
