  • Friendly site on the edge of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park
  • A mile from Brecon town centre; 15 minutes' drive to Pen y Fan
  • Heated outdoor pool and sports field on site; restaurant next door
Just on the edge of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, you’ll be in a splendid spot to explore when you stay at Bishops Meadow Holiday Park. This mid-sized Powys park is in a very handy location just over a mile from Brecon, so you’ll be able to walk into town in around 25 minutes, get the bus from the stop just outside or drive down there in just a few minutes. Taxis are also available for a fairly affordable rate if you fancy having a nice meal out or a few drinks in one of the town’s cosy pubs. That said, you won’t have to go all the way into town if you don’t fancy it, as this site just happens to be next door to one of the area’s most popular restaurants, specialising in big tasty burgers. Rather cook your own meals? You’re welcome to bring a barbecue along and pick up supplies at the shops in town; there are also various essentials for sale at the site’s shop (including ice creams for a sweet treat). This is a place that prides itself on its friendly atmosphere, with the staff doing their best to ‘make sure guests are having the nicest time possible’. Helping to contribute to that are the site’s facilities, which include a heated outdoor pool (open from mid-May to September), a play area, a dog-walking path and a field with football and rugby goalposts for those who’d like to get a game going. You’ll also have access to useful things like a launderette, a chemical disposal point, toilets and showers.

Well-kept park, friendly staff, great views near Brecon. Clean facilities, nice pool. Pitches spacious but some sloping. Laundry limited. Nearby burger joint. Toilets distant for some. One report of guest behaviour issues.

Liked great location to explore and Brecon was a 5 minute drive away, the site was clean and tidy and the pool was great in the hot weather.

Disliked there was no hot water in the toilets or showers, the boiler was broken, could happen to any site, but let down what was a great weekend

Liked Lovely warm welcome, friendly helpful staff. Nice walk into town, roughly half an hour walk, good selection of shops and supermarkets. Pool was lovely especially as we arrived during a heatwave. Play park for kids and loads of space to enjoy kids running around (too many campsites push in more camping spaces and don’t think of play area outside the park, lovely that this site encourages kids play) Good showers and facilities, restaurant and bar onsite we didn’t use but looked nice and folk we spoke to on site spoke highly of the place. We would rebook for sure without hesitation!

Disliked Nothing!

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Plenty of room, facilities clean.

Disliked Walk from tent field to the Toilet block too far, could do with a toilet facility closer to the tent field, we noticed people using the edge row instead of of walking to the distant toilet block.

Liked Pool was nice to have to keep kids entertained. All residents and customers were extremely friendly on site.

Disliked Not enough seating around the pool edge. Cleanliness in toilets/shower block was poor and toilet roll was in short supply every day. It was difficult to identify pitches. Would be a great help if they were numbered instead of just painted wooden pegs. Clearer pitch boundaries would help new arrivals.

Liked Good facilities, inc Pool, microwave etc. Burger bar onsite serves great burgers! Location good for exploring and passing by.

Disliked Toilet block needs some attention/deep clean, pool could be open for longer hours e.g. earlier for early swim and later for later arrivals/returns.

Liked This was a lovely campsite. Was greeted by a lovely lady when checking in and was even shown to our pitch by a lovely gentlemen. Was everything we needed facilities wise and toilets / showers were a good standard! Even had a swimming pool which my 11 year old daughter loved! Nice little shop as well which we only used when my husband got bit by a spider and I went and got an ice lolly to help with the sting! The staff couldn’t have been more helpful as the shop was actually closed and they opened it up for us and even asked if we would like them to go to their van to get ice instead of spending money! We will definitely be returning!

Local attractions

Brecon is a fairly small town, but it’s got plenty for the visitor – you may like to pay a visit to the cathedral, see the Royal Welsh Regimental Museum or explore the handful of art galleries here. There are also some lovely walks from town along the banks of the River Usk or the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, and shows and concerts at Theatr Brycheiniog. The area around the town is packed with outdoor activities, including fishing, horse riding, mountain biking and watersports; the best way to find out about all of these is to ask site staff or consult the information folder in the office. Of course the national park has walks galore too, including the popular Four Waterfalls Walk (half an hour’s drive away) and the ascent of Pen y Fan (15 minutes). Other outings nearby might take you to an alpaca walk with Alpaca My Boots (15 minutes), a trip underground at the National Showcaves Centre for Wales (half an hour) or to learn about the past at Big Pit National Coal Museum (45 minutes).
