Like the idea of an eco-friendly stay but also rather keen on life's little luxuries (like four poster beds and private hot tubs)? Here's a place that manages to mix the both: Go Eco Glamping is (as the name suggests) an adults-only, eco-friendly glampsite 10 minutes' drive from the Ceredigion town of Lampeter. The combination of modern necessities and eco choices is spot on, so there’s no need to feel any guilt about being oh-so-comfy during your stay. Yes, it's off-grid, but the limited energy supply is used to power USB charging points, energy-efficient LED lighting, a TV and wifi, and the amenities are the stuff of glamping dreams: private shower rooms with walk-in hot showers, hand basins and proper flushing toilets. Woodburning stoves take care of heating (and get the private hot tubs warming up nicely). Elsewhere on site, it’s all about soaking up the surrounds and spotting the inhabitants – laze around in the meadow among wildflowers planted to attract butterflies and bees or take a stroll to the lake to look out for local wildlife (and perhaps have birds flitting down to eat out of your hands). It's also a fine idea to soak in the hot tub as night falls, so that you can gaze up towards the spectacular stars overhead at this dark-sky area.

Local attractions

With such luxury at base it might be tempting to stay put, but there are some pretty sights around to complement your stay when you do fancy it. For example, you could amble to Cae Hir Gardens in 35 minutes (it’s a five-minute drive if you'd rather) then reward yourself with a cuppa and slice of homemade cake in the tearoom. Walks around the 18th-century Llanerchaeron mansion (20 minutes by car) cover woodland, parkland, walled gardens and a lake – or the Ceredigion Coast Path is 20 minutes away if you’d prefer views of the Cardigan Bay coast while you stroll. Brechfa Forest (25 minutes) has woodland walks and mountain bike trails for those that don't mind getting a bit muddy. Add to the memories made during your stay by opting for a dolphin-spotting boat trip from nearby seaside towns Aberaeron (20 minutes) or New Quay (half an hour). Make a day of it by sticking around for some beach time or giving watersports a bash, then heading to a local pub or restaurant for a seaside supper.
