Our pitch

  • Eight-acre smallholding in peaceful countryside
  • A 20-minute drive from Aberaeron and 30 from Aberystwyth
  • Spectacular views towards the Cambrian mountains
Find your way to Ffynnonwen Farm Wild Camping for peaceful stays in Welsh countryside – a mere glimpse at the pics showing the spectacular setting of this quiet eight-acre smallholding with stunning views towards the Cambrian mountains may well encourage you to get moving right away… As well as an outstanding outlook, this park in a lush valley has paddock areas for pitching and picnics along with plenty of space to laze about or roam; dog-friendly nature trails and walks are in and around this farm full of wildflower meadows, beech trees and a natural spring to wander around. If lots of ambling is planned, aim for Llyn Eiddwen lake and Site of Special Scientific Interest, a pretty place for a stroll beside the rare local water and plant life and around half an hour on foot from Ffynonnwen. Local village Bontnewydd is also accessible on a walk as it’s about 25 minutes away (or five minutes’ drive if you’re feeling a little lazy). Mosey on back to the park and make the most of the views by stoking up the barbecue – if it’s chilly, campfires are allowed on site as well. A supermarket in Lampeter is within half an hour’s drive, or stop by at Blaencamel Organic Farm (20 minutes’ drive) on your way to a local beach like Aberaeron with its pretty fishing village (around the same distance). Charging facilities and chemical disposal are available at Ffynonnwen Farm Wild Camping.

Liked: Rural campsite with everything you need at your disposal. Family wanted to stay for longer than we booked. 2 year old had an amazing time looking at the animals and has fallen in love with Tilly (the hand reared sheep) owners are really friendly with a good sense of humour. Wonderful family memories made and would definitely stay again. Thank you.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your comments and that means a lot to us. We try very hard to please everyone and provide a taste of farm life. It was a pleasure to have met you and so pleased that the family enjoyed their experience. We are looking forward to seeing you again in the near future. Thank you.

A wild experience.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Such a wonderful wild campsite! We had a fabulous stay, meeting Mark on arrival, being greeted by a rather rambunctious cockerel! Mark was incredibly welcoming, explained how the site worked, we pitched our tent and awaited Storm Lillian. This is a back to basics campsite, very definitely wild camping, exactly what we were looking for. Very quiet, and the children loved meeting and talking to all the animals. We loved our stay there (despite the delightful weather) and will definitely be making another trip. Thank you. 😊

Disliked: The composting toilet was not the best toilet we’ve ever used, although the view from the door was great.

Liked: The peace and quiet.

Disliked: Rundown she'd with a bucket for a toilet, not clean at all. Shower in the main house which is quite a walk along the main road and at £1.50 for 5 mins is very steap and a Cockerel that attacks you on the way out.No running water, cleaning facilities.

From the manager: Really sorry that this type of stay was not for you. However I would suggest that for future reference please read the camp site description carefully before booking. We do not advertise the fact that we provide cleaning facilities or running water. We do however provide guests with free bottled water. As for animals running free - we are a working farm which is part of the attraction and make guest aware of that. Feedback is however important to us so thank you for that.

Route directions

To find the site, use the postcode rather than relying on the farm name alone. From the B4577, turn right onto the B4576. Take a slight right and stay on that road; do NOT turn right. Keep going slight left then a slight right and the farmhouse will be on your right in front of you. On the hill you will see the drive on your right and the black dog sign.

Local attractions

Ffynonnwen Farm is within easy reach of the Llŷn Peninsula and Ceredigion seaside as well as the watersports at Aberystwyth half an hour’s drive away. In fact, a whole of host of beaches can be visited in this part of Wales, including busier New Quay and the slightly quieter Tan Y Bwlch, both about half an hour’s drive away. Borth beach takes 50 minutes to reach, and it's 40 minutes to Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre – where you might spot some of the dolphins who regularly make an appearance on these shores… For a cultural detour inland, head to the National Trust’s 18th-century estate of Llanerchaeron with its walled garden and ornamental lake (25-minute drive) then make your way towards the riverside woodlands encircling the manor house (or shop for local farm produce at the on-site store). Go north towards the dunes of Ynyslas (55 minutes up the coast) for a change of scenery and swing by the colourful cottages and pleasure pier of Aberystwyth as a scenic stopoff point along the way.
