Introduction to bryncarnedd
Field
Caravan site

  • Peaceful pitches a mile from Aberystwyth town centre
  • A 10-minute drive from Borth beach; 20 minutes from Devil's Bridge
  • Easy access from main roads; dogs welcome
Make the most of Ceredigion’s countryside and set your compass to Bryncarnedd Caravan Park, a mile outside of Aberystwyth town centre. It is indeed a splendid spot here on what was once a busy dairy farm, and handily you’ll be well set for getting into town for shops, restaurants and attractions when you want them. These days, this place has been transformed into a peaceful caravan park with holiday lets in the surrounding old farm buildings. Dogs are welcome to join you on the pitches here – there are plenty of places to take them (or yourselves) for a walk on local pathways. Easy access to the local main roads (A44 and A487) means that it’s straightforward to get out and about for the area’s many activities and attractions, be they beaches, birdwatching, bike riding or exploring the area around Devils Bridge (waterfalls and cool bridges included). Back on site, though, there are well-maintained facilities, including a play area, washing-up area, chemical disposal point and modern bathroom block with toilets and showers to rinse off after a full-on day of adventuring.

Powered grass and gravel caravan site

Liked Not alot

Disliked The lack of anybody/ information about local area. The porta cabins for toilets and showers. The notices insisting that pitch up tourers were not entitled to site WiFi and use of the swimming pool, even at an extra cost. The price for a bit of gravel and strip of grass. The walk to bus stop down a very fast, pavement less narrow lane boasting 12 fatalities so far this year.

Lovely site and clean, quiet environment . Would stay again

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Bathroom and shower facilities very clean and modern.
Easy to hook up electrics
Ease to get into Aberwystwyth town in about eight minutes drive or less.

Disliked Was slightly confusing to figure out where to pitch up the tent but figure it out after viewing the site map more .

Convenience for local stores and buses. Convenience for Aberystwyth itself. Great pitches.…

Powered grass and gravel caravan site

Liked Convenience for local stores and buses.
Convenience for Aberystwyth itself.
Great pitches.

Disliked Though they must get it a lot, local stores and buses are reached by a short stretch of fairly busy road without pavement i.e. not ideal for opting to be a pedestrian.

Sign-posting for Pitch Up pitches isnt intuitive i.e. not clear/close on arrival to site e.g. you have to drive around on site and then look in right direction to see them.

If I need a campsite in the area I would pick this one.

Powered grass and gravel caravan site

Liked Just what I needed.
I was given a pitch next to my friend. Campsite was quiet and toilets and showers were clean and functioned very well.
I was attending the international ceramics festival so really have very little time on the site other than sleeping and breakfast. But was just what I needed.

Disliked Nothing really.

Give it a miss, unless you need an over nighter.

Powered grass and gravel caravan site

Liked Clean quite mostly. Does what it says on tin, no more no less.

Disliked Main road next to site, no reception. Could do with more signage at gate telling travellers, to go to pitch up signs in gravel standing. Also more fresh water points . Noticed travlers having to block road to fill up . Also nothing at site scenic wise. Showers and loos are Porto houses. One major problem is they are mixed use, so my wife wouldn’t use them. Lastly lots of caravans sited there with silly looking gardens, etc. the weekender parties. Some extremely scruffy looking ones. Sorry but that’s what we saw. Won’t go again .

I’d stay again, Would keep my fingers crossed the above was a one-off

Powered grass and gravel caravan site

Liked It’s vicinity to Aberystwyth town (especially the University campus), hot showers.
Decided on a Caravan park as opposed to a camp site as they are generally quieter than camp sites.

Disliked Waft of cannabis smoke coming from cabins (these were contractors, there for the cycling event) and noise from same cabins (stoned arguing and music).

Excellent site, would happily go back.

Liked Proximity to Aberystwyth

Disliked - There was no reception, and hence little information about the site.
- The toilets and showers were not specifically male or female, which we both found disconcerting.
- The website for the park suggested that there was a footpath into Aberystwyth, but there was no obvious path at the site, so we had to walk along the road, which did not have a pavement for the first few hundred metres, and which was not particularly safe to walk along.
- The grey water emptying was not convenient for a motorhome as it was not possible to park over the drain.

Local attractions

Once you’ve got your bearings, you’ll want to get clued up on exactly what’s close by. Aberystwyth (five minutes’ drive) has a castle, cliff railway and the nostalgic Vale of Rheidol Railway, while Borth beach (10 minutes) will sort out swimming, surfing, fishing, sailing and windsurfing fans. For walks surrounded by pleasant coastal scenery, the Ynyslas beach and nature reserve (15 minutes) is a sure bet for that sort of stuff, while the Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest Visitor Centre (15 minutes) has plenty of walks or bike trails in a forest setting instead. There's also red kite feeding activities to mix things up a little there. Put your smarts to the test… you’ll find a few things to wrap your head around at the Centre for Alternative Technology (35 minutes). Meanwhile, Corris Craft Centre (35 minutes) will be a test of your artistic skills instead, while the Silver Mountain Experience (20 minutes) has escape rooms and tours around a Victorian mine. And what about King Arthur's Labyrinth (40 minutes), where re-enactments and boat tours bring the legends to life? Handily, with your guide, you shouldn't get too lost inside the Snowdonia mountains…
