  • Peaceful park next to the River Forth, two miles from Aberfoyle
  • In Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, a half-hour drive from Stirling
  • Well-kept pitches with direct access to Loch Ard Forest; dogs welcome
If you’re setting off for Stirlingshire with your eye on finding lots of alfresco activities, you should certainly consider Cobleland Caravan and Camping Site as a base. A couple of miles south of Aberfoyle, this peaceful park is in the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, just on the edge of the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. That setting means miles and miles of walking and cycling trails stretch out through the surrounding area, with fishing and golf close by too – and watersports, treetop trails, cliff jumping and the like for more intrepid guests. And in fact you don't have to travel far to get started on soaking up the spectacular scenery – you can simply stick around on site, where oak trees tower over the pitches and there’s a backdrop of pretty forest views with the River Forth running along one side of the site. Just beyond the river are paths taking you straight out into Loch Ard Forest for a woodland wander or a dog walk if you’ve brought your pet with you. The pitches at Cobleland are well tended and spacious, with access to all the essential amenities including a launderette, a washing-up area and chemical disposal as well as bathrooms with toilets, showers and disabled facilities. Aberfoyle (five minutes’ drive) has a small supermarket for supplies, plus several places to eat and drink.

Powered grass caravan site

Liked: Great site and well laid out, clean toilets and lovely hot showers, great washing up and laundry facilities. On site coffee/bake shop, which we were going to try on the Sunday but it was a wet pack up of the tent and we got soaked so ended up not trying it out. Looked busy when open though. Electric tent pitch was good, under a big tree which was lovely. Well lit and signposted with the river running along the edge, was very busy when we stayed but very quiet come 11 ish which was just what was needed for a good sleep. Oliver, the manager, is a lovely chap and extremely helpful and friendly. Appeared to be child friendly and we used our own mifi/mobile phones for internet so cannot comment on that. Definitely one to return to!

Disliked: Not great weather but nobodies fault there! Some buzzies about, again nobody to blame. We had an electric repellent which worked great in the tent - recommend one of those!

Powered grass and gravel site

Liked: This site was great, we booked for 2 nights, we had asked to be next to my mum who was camping for 1 night, there was a mix up with the pitch but the man was so accommodating trying to fix it and we managed a solution, the toilet blocks were clean and tidy every time I went, 3 sinks in the clean up area and plenty shower cubicles, there was even a baby change which was fantastic traveling with a 6 month old. There is a nice woodland walk at end of site, we only did a small loop but still great and managed to get the pram round it. There was a small play park for the kids.

Disliked: The only issue we had was the midges, I know nothing the site can do which is why they still get 5 stars, the wee shop does stock smidge products. Some pitches were flooded but some had stuff down to try fix this so assume they are trying to fix this.

Powered grass and gravel site

Liked: This is the second time I’ve stayed at Cobleland Campsite and once again can’t fault it. The location is perfect for dog walks, being central to many places to visit as well as a short walk into Aberfoyle for lovely little cafes and a pub. Amenities are clean and well looked after and the coffee van and outdoor seating area is a fab upgrade to last year.

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: Myself, my husband and our 2 children 7 & 12 had a great stay at Cobleland. We enjoyed the walks and the children loved fishing. There was an on site shop which had a good range of products. The pitch was great and the facilities where clean and fresh. Plenty water points as well. Would stay again!
