  • Quiet caravan park close to the A9 in scenic Glen Glass
  • Half an hour’s drive from dolphin spotting at Chanonry Point
  • Full facilities and shop; five minutes’ walk to the pub in Evanton
Located in the sleepy village of Evanton in spectacular Glen Glass, Black Rock Caravan and Camping Park is so peaceful it feels like the middle of nowhere – but actually it’s really easy to access, being under five minutes’ drive from the A9 main route between Perth and Thurso, and only half an hour from lively Inverness. There's no need to travel very far to stock up on essentials though, as the park has its own shop, open daily, and there’s a small shop in Evanton too. If you prefer not to cook every night on your holiday, the village pub serves tasty dishes like burgers or fish and chips. Both pub and shop are five minutes' walk away. For peaceful times outside of the site, there’s loch and river fishing nearby (you’ll need a permit), as well as many, many hiking trails in untamed Highland countryside. Loch Ness, Glen Affric and the dolphin-spotting hub at Chanonry Point are all within easy reach for more outdoor adventures. And the practicalities? The park has disabled facilities, hot showers, baby-changing amenities and a launderette to keep everyone smart and shipshape, plus ice-pack freezers to keep your foodstuffs fresh. There is also pay-as-you-go wifi on the park.

Liked Good facilities.

Disliked Disappointing Welcome at Reception

We had been driving all day and were simply looking for a place to rest for the night. We arrived at 8:00 p.m., fully aware that the check-in time listed on the booking was 5:00 p.m. However, the way we were treated on the phone upon arrival was very unwelcoming — as if we had committed some major offense.

We understand that arriving late may cause some inconvenience, but as tourists, it's often difficult to predict exact arrival times when on the road. If strict check-in times are non-negotiable, please make this extremely clear in large print before the booking — rather than making guests feel like a burden when they arrive.

There are many other camper van sites that are more flexible and accommodating with late check-ins, and we would gladly choose them next time.

Camping pod

Liked Everything. The best campsite toilets/showers, a full individual bathroom to yourself. Site looked not just well maintained but I felt loved. Campers kitchen, was cosy. I travelled with a dog and stayed in the wigwam style pod and the cosiness, micro/oven/ grill combi and kettle was so welcome. Walks for dog immediately from the door in to fantastic community woodland. A great base for exploring Highlands. Great pub few mins from site plus a very good coop. Great value can't wait to return.... to the peace.

Disliked Tiny fridge in the heat was useless. Milk went of too quickly and couldn't keep any fruit or veg. Only relevant if staying more than one night. Bigger tiny fridge would be great. Although tiny fridge is big enough for 2 tins, but not cold.

Fully-serviced gravel caravan site

Liked The site himself, very quiet.
Excellent welcome, clean, and tidy. The on-site laundry room is exceptional, with two washing machines with laundry sanitizer and a dryer. The various stalls with integrated toilets and showers, including heated ones, are truly thoughtful and functional; it was like having your own private bathroom.

3 bedroom static caravan

Liked The campsite itself was well organised and facilities were very good.
The showers/toilets were kept clean and the showers themselves were powerful and as hot as you could want.
The staff were welcoming and efficient and any questions or problems we had were dealt with quickly and without fuss.
The caravan was good value for money and a definite upgrade from our usual large 6 man tent.
Money well spent and a lovely part of the country with plenty to do if you like being outdoors.

Disliked The only thing missing (a very minor niggle) was a camp shop for essentials but as the local co-op is just along the road I’m maybe being a bit picky.
Biggest dislike was having to go back home.

Local attractions

If you’re into exploring out and about on foot, start off with an easy hike to Black Rock Gorge (five minutes’ walk), or take the longer trail around Loch Glass (25 minutes’ drive) to the well-known Insta spot and solitary pink house at Culzie Lodge. The hour’s drive up to the top of Glen Affric brings rewards in the form of spectacular walking alongside lochs and rivers. You might like to spend a day exploring Loch Ness (40 minutes), perhaps the most famous section of water in Scotland. Board a cruiser in Fort Augustus (an hour and 10 minutes) to look out for the famous monster, or read up all about Nessie in the Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition in Drumnadrochit. Drop by Urquhart Castle (both 45 minutes) to see the Giant Tower, prison cells and dramatic loch views, or go wild swimming off the shingle beach at Dores (40 minutes). End the day in one of the many pubs or restaurants in buzzy Inverness (half an hour). Kids with you? Challenge them to paintball and archery at Wildwoodz Adventure Park Inverness (15 minutes), or take them dolphin spotting at Chanonry Point (half an hour) – be sure to look up tide times as the dolphins follow the tide up Cromarty Firth.
