Cor, you'll wish your Grannie’s home was as cool as this: slap bang on the beachfront, with an indoor pool, Jacuzzi and sauna, tennis courts and Costa coffee on tap… Grannie’s Heilan’ Hame Holiday Park sits beside the powdery white sands of Embo beach near the historic town of Dornoch, in prime position for a romp around the Scottish Highlands. If you’re bringing the family, rest assured that the chances of the little ones getting bored are slim to none. Aside from the pool- and beach-based shenanigans, there’s mini ten-pin bowling, crazy golf, an amusement arcade, kids’ clubs featuring the Starland Krew, plus a great adventure playground with a zipwire, swings and slides. Older children and teens can get stuck into making their own animated movies or hit the decks at a DJ workshop in the Freestyle club. Grownups, meanwhile, will likely appreciate the smashing views across the Dornoch Firth – bottlenose dolphins and seals are regularly seen frolicking in the foam – plus the extensive facilities, which include a bar lounge and restaurant, evening entertainment, shop, launderette and more.   • Reception is unmanned after 6 p.m.. Please inform the campground while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time so that the team can provide information about your unit/site.
  • Single-sex parties of three or more people under 25 are not permitted on site. If the site asks you to do so, you must complete an online ID verification process before you arrive. Your booking may be cancelled if you do not complete, or if you fail, the ID verification process.

Liked Entertainment was good

Disliked Toilets and showers. Every morning toilets were blocked or without toilet roll. Showers using push button only allowing a couple of minutes of continuous running water makes showering laborious and there was no bench to set your bag with clean clothes on. Three hooks on the wall not enough to hang up everything to keep it clean and dry.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked On the seaside, we camped in a non-electric roof tent pitch which we managed to place sheltered between dunes. Food in the restaurant was nice enough.

Disliked If you are using a larger tent, make sure you pay for an electric pitch even if not required, the non-electric tent areas were filling every other gap that wasn’t already occupied, so not very much room for a large tent and very far away from the facilities.
The facilities were also not clean, we didn’t even brave the shower and decided to wait until we moved to a different campsite the next day. Toilets and sinks were okay though.

Liked Open level pitches, proximity of amenities, showers, toilets, water, electric hook up. Good value pitch charges

Disliked Maintenance poor, mould around shower door frames, toilet roll dispenser broken and taped up numerous times. Shower on ancient mechanical push system. No soap or shampoo shelves in showers. Entertainment was equivalent to a ten year olds birthday party.

Liked This site is very clean site stayed for 4 nights

Disliked Toilets disgusting 2 showers 2 men's Toilets stink of the drains when I managed to get a shower no were to sit in the tiny cubicle the site was packed at weekends but still kept the other toilet block locked not enough toilet facilities for such a busy site felt like we were on top of the next person's pitch definitely not 6 meters apart like I have just been reading from a fire registry

Dornoch, the pretty little town nearest to Grannie’s Heilan’ Hame Holiday Park, has a range of small independent shops, a cathedral dating back to 1224 and one of the best championship golf courses in the world. Otherwise, if you fancy a day trip, there’s a decent variety of things to do nearby. For a fairytale castle with a French flavour, take a tour of Dunrobin Castle, which stages falconry displays twice daily in its beautiful grounds; Black Isle Wildlife Park has child-pleasing meerkats, lemurs and zebras; whisky lovers can wet their whistle at the Glenmorangie Distillery; and the spectacular waterfalls at Falls of Shin are one of the best places in Scotland to see salmon feats of derring-do as the fish leap upstream between May and September, or to go geocaching, walking and cycling along the forest trails. If you don’t mind travelling a bit further, it’s an easy drive to classic destinations such as John O’Groats, Loch Ness and Ullapool.
