  • Family-friendly site 100 metres from the sea
  • A two-minute walk from Southerness Lighthouse and paths to two beaches
  • Swimming pool, café, entertainment room and a couple of bars on site
Looking for a fine place to get your seaside fix? Get straight to it at Lighthouse Leisure. This family-friendly site is positioned 100 metres from the sea and two minutes’ walk from the historic Southerness Lighthouse, where there’s a footpath that goes to Southerness beach and Powillimount beach in the other direction. What might your days look like here? Well, you might want to go sea fishing along the coast or choose from the selection of lochs and rivers inland. There’s a golf course just 10 minutes’ walk from the site when you fancy a round, or other golf courses within a 15 mile radius of the site. As for your holiday wanders, there are both coastal and forest walks in the surrounding area. Those of you who prefer to tackle the land on two wheels can also find cycling trails in the surrounding area, especially at 7Stanes: Dalbeattie, 20 minutes’ drive away. The site itself is well-maintained with tarred roads and next door to a well-stocked shop for all your supplies. There’s a regular bus service from the village to Dumfries that takes 40 minutes and stops at other villages on the route. As a family-friendly place, plenty of attention has been paid to kids’ entertainment too – that includes an adventure playground and a leisure complex with a swimming pool (which must be booked in advance), café, entertainment room, family bar and adults-only bar. The site has been in operation for nearly 50 years and being family owned, it has built up a well-established, warm and friendly atmosphere. Dogs are welcome too, good news for those of you with a furry friend.

What customers say

A tidy, welcoming spot near the beach. Great family fun with a pool and play areas. Facilities generally good, but some shower niggles and noise complaints. Super dog-friendly.

Liked Great facilities and staff very accommodating (had to borrow a mallet and a power cable. I even cheekily asked if we could stay a bit longer than the 12:00 exit, and the manager said if no one is coming into that pitch tomorrow then absolutely.

Liked There was a good choice of activities for the kids, close to bar, toilet and shower block was clean, great base to walk onto the beach.

Disliked Couldn't take the kids swimming as you had to book, we were not told this when booking, nor when checking in, so was very disappointing. The site wasn't kept very clean. Some of the staff were very rude and spoke to children inappropriately.

From the manager: Thank you for your recent feedback.
We are sorry that you did not find our park up to the usual standard most of our visitors rate us.
Regarding the swimming pool, we advise on booking your sessions before arrival to ensure you are allocated the spot you wish.
I'm glad that you found our touring toilet clean but am concerned as to your comment of the site not being clean. We have 3 site workers who clean up any litter continually. Perhaps your visit was during a particularly busy time when there was live entertainment and the staff wait until everyone has left the leisure complex area before they do a big clean up of any litter.
Perhaps you could let us know which staff members you felt spoke inappropriately to children, as this would never be tolerated by management and we would like to rectify this as soon as possible if it was a member of our staff.

Liked We booked the pool and it was great and the size of the pitch was generous! Really close to the coast. Decent pint in the Mermaid bar and very dog friendly! Bouncy castles during the day for the little ones as well as a decent playground, bingo and afternoon live music.

Disliked We were there between Friday and Tuesday. Friday and Saturday night were horrendous to try and get some sleep, the evening live music went on right up to midnight and the tent pitches are yards away from the clubhouse. We would stay here again but maybe not on a weekend.

Liked The weather made this a lovely stay. Unfortunately I am not in a position to enjoy the night life having two young children so I found it personally boring but there is plenty of entertainment on offer. For people who like to join in and enjoy an evening drinking this is a perfect site. There is plenty of entertainment around if your simply there to relax and let your hair down. The site offers a great selection on food to choose from if you dont want to cook for yourself and the onsite shop is well stocked if you do want to cook.

Disliked While there is a very very good singer/musician in the afternoon, he is way too loud to enjoy at the Mermaid Bar. The only way to enjoy his repertoire is from somewhere away from the bar and it's outdoor seating area. The entire site could hear him which meant no afternoon naps for anyone.

The swimming pool is so small that it can only accommodate small groups which turns out to be very expensive @ £20 per 1 hr15mins. Kids like to splash around together so this for me was a major downside.

Liked We recently stayed at this fantastic leisure park and couldn’t be happier with our experience. The location is absolutely stunning – right next to the sea with beautiful, peaceful scenery and easy access to some amazing beaches.

The site itself is very well maintained, with clean and modern amenities that made our stay really comfortable. There’s a great balance of things to do, including onsite entertainment that’s fun and family-friendly, but not too loud in the evenings – perfect for relaxing.

The staff and fellow guests were all very friendly and helpful, which created such a welcoming atmosphere. The booking process was simple and efficient, and everything was ready for us when we arrived – no hassle at all.

We would highly recommend this site to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway by the sea, and we’ll definitely be booking again!
