It's a small and exclusive park just outside Kirkcudbright, with rather special views over Kirkcudbright Bay to Ross Island and its lighthouse… you should surely be tempted to break out the easel. What customers say

Highly recommended for stunning views, cleanliness & friendly staff. Guests love the spotless loos/showers & heated pool, a hit with kids. Great location near beach & Kirkcudbright. Sloping pitches & a bit of a trek for tents noted, but overall peaceful, well-kept & beautiful.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Kevin was brilliant, he showed us right to the tent area and let us choose where to pitch our tent. It was a lovely quiet site and the toilet and showers were lovely and clean. The heated pool was the main reason we booked and it didn’t disappoint.

Disliked There seemed to be a wasp infestation which was really difficult to cook or eat outside. We managed to make the kids something but they had to eat inside the tent. One night we went out to eat as it was too stressful and irritating. A campfire would have possibly helped to keep them away but not allowed. Off the ground fire pits would be a good addition.

Liked This was the most idyllic place to stay! We loved every moment.

My husband, 7-year-old son and I stayed for 4 nights towards the end of July with the intention of completely relaxing and exploring some of south-west Scotland’s scenery and this campsite did not disappoint! We only wished that we had booked for longer! This is such a gem of a campsite and we cannot wait to book to go back again.

The site itself is incredibly well-maintained and the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and visible during our stay. The toilets and showers were the cleanest of any campsite that we have been to - with a block for females, males, disabled access, and also a block available for anyone to use. What’s more - the showers were actual showers! Not push button ones! There were even hairdryers available in the toilet blocks for drying hair which was a lovely touch.

The site was so quiet and calm - the atmosphere was just perfect! There is a small section of ‘beach’ at the side of the estuary, which is right by the campsite (after crossing one road). I say ‘beach’ because it’s mud rather than sand but this didn’t stop us from exploring or taking in the breathtaking scenery. Just don’t expect to be taking children to make sandcastles and you’ll be fine. We regretted not bringing our paddleboard with us as it would have been perfect for this sort of water activity as the water was so peaceful.

The campsite itself is a short drive from the town of Kirkcudbright, which has a very small Tesco. There is an Aldi around 30 minutes drive away. There is a small shop on site which sells necessary items.

Liked We’ve just returned from the most wonderful camping trip as a family of four, and we’re still smiling from the experience! We were incredibly lucky to have booked during the recent heatwave in Scotland, and the sunshine made everything even more special.

The campsite itself was absolutely stunning — nestled among beautiful, mature trees that offered the perfect amount of shade and added to the peaceful, tranquil atmosphere. The views were simply breathtaking, and it truly felt like a hidden gem.

From the moment we arrived, everything was smooth and hassle-free. Check-in was quick and easy, and the campsite assistant was exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and efficient — a great first impression that set the tone for the rest of our stay.

The entire site was immaculately maintained. The grass was perfectly manicured, and the facilities were top-notch — the best we’ve encountered on any camping trip. The bathrooms were modern, spotless, and clearly very well looked after. The heated swimming pool was an absolute highlight for the kids (and us!) — crystal clear and incredibly refreshing after a day in the sun.

The location couldn’t have been better. Just a short walk away is a stunning, sandy beach where we spent countless happy hours swimming and playing. To top it off, the Mr Whippy van parked up near the beach was a big hit with the whole family — a perfect treat after a day in the sea and sun! And being so close to the charming town of Kirkcudbright meant we could easily pop in for a wander and enjoy its vibrant, artistic atmosphere.

We genuinely can’t recommend this campsite enough. It had everything we could have hoped for — beauty, peace, fun for the kids, and top-tier facilities. We’ll definitely be back!

Local attractions

Bring the family's bikes if you can, as the famed 7stanes forest trails at Dalbeattie and Kirroughtree are only 30 minutes away from and the Sustrans Route 7 passes right outside the park entrance. (If you haven't brought bikes, hire them just outside the Dalbeattie trail or near the Kirroughtree Forest visitor centre.) By hike rather than bike, there's a wealth of walks around the coast, hills and forests of the area as well as an easy stroll to the sea, shingle cove and sandy beach of Dhoon Bay minutes from the caravan park. Golfers have loads to pick from too including the championship Brighouse Bay course a short drive away along the coast; horse riding, a wildlife conservation park and activity centres are in the region, and the tasty chocolate factory of the Cocobean Company is only 10 minutes' drive away. More gently, the harbour town of Kirkcudbright town has a good clutch of coffee shops and galleries in which to while away the day, as well as the Stewartry Museum with a good collection of works by local artists (there are quite a few). Also recommended is heading to the harbour to watch the fishing boats unload their catch – you might even come over all artistic yourself – and watch them, the yachts and the lifeboats leave Kirkcudbright Bay. Finally, take a stargazing look at spectacular Galloway Forest Park, the UK's first Dark Sky Park and one of only four designated in all of Europe.
