  • Quiet park within walking distance of Gatehouse of Fleet
  • In a wildlife haven and a few miles from the coast
  • Use of sister park with pool, restaurant, gym and solarium
If you're after a quieter vibe at a family holiday park in Dumfries and Galloway, you'll very much like Anwoth Caravan Park. This is the sister site of Auchenlarie Holiday Park (also on Pitchup.com), in a peaceful wildlife haven setting near the pretty town of Gatehouse of Fleet and in an area that's inspired Scottish bards and artists for centuries. But – what genius – guests at Anwoth can also use the facilities at Auchenlarie, which is about four miles/seven minutes' drive along the A75 (turn right on leaving Anwoth and look for Auchenlarie signposted on the left) and which has a heated indoor pool, restaurant, takeaway and leisure centre with gym and solarium among loads loads more. Entertainment and leisure passes are available for day use, short breaks or weekly stays: buy on arrival at Anwoth. But back to the peace and quiet… Anwoth is in an area where you can sit still and see a lot of wildlife: herds of deer regularly roam the surrounding landscape, you might see otters if you're very very quiet, and you'll likely spy birds of prey and red squirrels among the many local species. This is also serious angling locale, particularly for salmon and trout fishing in the nearby rivers Esk, Annan, Nith, Ken, Dee and Cree. Anwoth has a launderette, washing facilities and a shower and toilet block on site. Restaurants, cafés, bars, craft shops and a well-stocked convenience store are at Gatehouse of Fleet a short walk away; the town has a local bus service too.

Well-kept, quiet site with top-notch facilities. Friendly staff. Easy walk to town and local trails. Some found it overlooked by static homes and noted no WiFi, but management is addressing this.

Liked Excellent shower and toilet block.
Helpful and friendly staff.
Perfectly positioned with easy access to Gatehouse with good pub's restaurants and stores .

Disliked Some rather small pitches with concrete and gravel. Leaving a feeling of been a tightly confined With an awning up no place to park the car.

Liked Lovely small campsite. We were very happy with our hardstanding ptich, with water and eletric. The facilities were amazing - top quality bathroom area, which has a number of "rooms" each with a toilet, sink and shower, and heated towel rail, all included in the price! There is also an exellent enclosed washing up area, and a laundry with washer dryer - and a microwave. The location is fab, a few mins walk to the high street in Gatehouse of Fleet, which is also lovely. Richard (the park warden) was so helpful too, giving us lots of useful info re the caravan park, Gatehouse and the surrounding area. We can't wait to return to Gatehouse and Anwoth Caravan Park.

Disliked Having to leave!

Liked The couple who own this place make you feel welcome and that’s a huge thing.

So easy to get to from main roads, and then feels so quiet inside the village. Awesome. Shops and cafe’s / restaurants within minutes, facilities are great - super modern and warm shower and toilet block. Pitches perfectly sized for a camper van with plenty space in between hardstandings. Power and water laid out for every stance in a neat way. If every place was like this ….

Disliked Nothing whatsoever.

Carrick 2 bedroom static caravan (pet friendly)

Liked Warm welcome from the owner as always. Great new dog friendly accommodation. Very spacious and everything you could possibly need for a gd break.
Very useful info guide included everything you could possibly want to know.
Would be useful to include in emails the few things you need to bring with you when staying for first time eg. Shower mat, soap, washing up liquid, tea towels. Our 3rd time so we know.
Overall, we love it here and will return.

Local attractions

Anyone with any sense should be quite the fan of Dumfries and Galloway, for many, many reasons including its wildlife and birdwatching, its lush landscape and the evidence of its rich history, archaeology and art in its castles, towers, abbeys, earthworks and standing stones. And did you know that JM Barrie had the idea for Peter Pan while in Dumfries – and that nearby Sanquhar has the oldest post office in Scotland…? Paul, Neil and Bob (the latest generation of Swalwells to own Amwoth Caravan Park) also suggest a look at Whithorn, on the southern tip of the Machars peninsula and the seat of Christianity in Scotland, and at Lochmaben as the birthplace of Robert the Bruce. And if you like reading Rabbie, you might also like to see Dumfries, home and resting place for famed Scottish poet Robert Burns. Ecclefechan, the birth town of Thomas Carlyle, is also within reach – do be sure to have an Ecclefechan butter tart while you're there.
