  • Peaceful setting on the Kintyre peninsula
  • Canoe hire, lessons and guides available nearby
  • Close to ferry ports for Islay, Gigha and Arran
Argyll's Tarbert Holiday Park is on the Kintyre peninsula in the west of Scotland, between Loch Fyne and West Loch Tarbert. Canoes can be hired from a watersports centre nearby; if you need a bit of guidance, you can take a kayaking or paddleboarding lesson or trip or ask a guide to keep you company alongside your canoe. On land, the 100-mile Kintrye Way starts near the site's local village of Tarbert, two miles away; golf is within a couple of miles, and you can take day trips to the scenic (and whisky-producing) islands of Islay and Jura 30 miles away via the nearby ferry. Tarbert Holiday Park has free wifi and a toilet block with showers and disabled facilities. Dogs are welcome. Barbecues are allowed on site.

Local attractions

The surrounding lochs are the main pull of this spectacular region, so get out onto the water via an instructor-led canoe trip straight from the site, or by paddleboard or kayak with the help of the watersports centre next door. All sorts of other activities are accessible from Tarbert two miles away: there's fishing from here and along the loch shore; wildlife-watching cruises from the harbour, and teeing off at Tarbert Golf Club, a nine-hole course among lush green surrounds. Also from the village, set your feet or bike wheels along the long-distance route of the Kintyre Way, which runs all the way along the Kintrye Peninsula from Tarbert in the north to Machrihanish in the south. The first stretch is the 11-mile hike from Tarbert to Claonaig, past hill paths and forest trails, Skipness village and Robert the Bruce's castle. The megalithic site of the standing stones at Ballochroy are 12 miles away; off the peninsula, you could venture to the Scottish Beaver Trial project at Knapdale (15 miles); Achamore Gardens on the island of Gigha (15 miles), or to Islay and Jura, within 30 miles.

What customers say

Great, friendly campsite, perfect for ferries. Visitors love the spotless facilities, cafe, and communal kitchen. Spacious pitches. A few mention groundworks, occasional cleanliness issues, and small shower cubicles. Town walk could be better signposted.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site

Liked That the site coffee shop / cafe was opened all year and very lovey staffed. Very well set up site.

Disliked Ground works going on within the site tho I understand there just try to grow and improve on the site. A heads up would have been nice.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Good location. Nice big pitches, good toilet and shower block and a lovely on site restaurant/ cafe. Good laundry facilities (cheaper than other campsites I've been to) and the on- site kitchen was great with cooker hob, proper oven and microwave which we used.

Oak camping pod (two person, pet friendly)

Liked Tarbert Holiday park was very accommodating. They were helpful in finding an area to park our car trailer and even more helpful with our late check in. The pod itself was clean, warm and cozy.

Fir camping pod (two person, pet friendly)

Liked The location was perfect and the facilities were excellent. We stayed in a serviced pitch whilst other family members stayed in a pod and the kitchen/dining area was a great place to meet for meals etc. Facilities were very clean.
