  • Small, quiet site in the grounds of a farmhouse next to Lough Neagh
  • Easy access from the M1, 15 minutes away; 40 minutes to Belfast
  • Dogs and kids welcome; play area and pizza oven in the grounds
Trying to find somewhere to stay close to Lough Neagh? Or maybe you need a quiet location that’s handy for Belfast International airport, the M1 motorway, or indeed Belfast itself? Well, here’s all of that rolled into one at Lisieux House, in a peaceful spot 100 metres from the banks of the lough and a 15-minute drive from the motorway. This tiny site is within the grounds of a traditional Irish farmhouse on an acre of land and surrounded by fields. With no noise from passing traffic, it’s a peaceful spot – and a scenic one too, with the Montiaghs Moss Nature Reserve and RSPB Portmore Lough Belfast site close by and public access to Lough Neagh 300 metres away at Derrymore Quay. Despite this rural location, you’ll easily be able to get to Belfast or its airport with a drive of 40 minutes or so. Dogs and kids are welcome here, and the garden has a zipline and swings for energetic youngsters to play on. There are also picnic tables where guests can catch up over their drinks and meals, including pizzas cooked up in the outdoor oven when it’s lit. You’ll be able to pick up all your supplies in Lurgan, 15 minutes’ drive away. As this is a small family-run site the facilities are fairly simple, but you’ll have access to a toilet and shower.

What customers say

Lovely natural park, great hosts who make an effort. Guests enjoyed the rural feel, views and the owner's awesome kindness, with fun family stuff. Handy cooking cabin, showers, basic facilities. Mostly idyllic, though one mention of tight tent spots and basic facilities. Perfect for a chilled family break.

Liked I loved pitching up in Edwin's garden, all you need is there clean outdoor toilet, hot shower and electric hook up. If you have kids there is plenty to explore in the garden and Lough Neagh and a beautiful sunset just a stone throw away. Not to mention his numerous friendly neighbours (cows) looking over the fence in the morning.

Disliked Nothing

Liked Warm, friendly greeting from Edwin and wife. I feel very lucky to have shared a huge garden that doubled up as a football field a dog play park and a camp site, where guests from all parts of the world could share food and stories. The inclusive atmosphere, the happy to help attitude makes Lisieux house a treasure of a place to stay. The ducks that also reside at Lisieux house were so entertaining, brilliant addition to the place. Freshly made pizza was very 😋.

Disliked At first I felt disappointed not to looking out across Lough Neagh, but it is a few minutes walk from the house. However, this soon left as I settled in to such a lovely place.

Liked Facilities like kettle, microwave and cooker with fridge was good

Disliked Not enough room for the tents. Just like camping in your front garden.

From the manager: Thanks for the feedback
I am glad you appreciated the facilities that are available

When you arrived at midday there were two tents from the previous night that were still on site. That was unfortunate because it gave the impression of a busy site. Both of the tents were cleared by 3pm and after that yours was the only tent on site

I am glad to hear that you felt it was "just like camping in your front garden" - That's exactly how we want campers to feel

Great, friendly place.

Liked We had a great stay here with a young child camping. The camping/ garden area is lovely, rustic and full of charm with some nice views too. The owner Edwin and family were very friendly and relaxed and took time to show us some extras such as the ducks eggs in the morning which our child loved.

Useful facilities such as communal sink, fridge, stove, toaster were great to have.

Great location near Lough Neagh as well.

Thanks a lot.

Liked We had a wonderful stay at this lovely little campsite! The location is peaceful and perfect for a relaxing getaway, but what really made it special was Edwin, the owner. He is incredibly nice and goes out of his way to make sure everyone feels welcome and comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for him — he was always around if we needed anything and full of great local tips.

The campsite itself has all the basics you’d need for a cozy stay. It’s clear Edwin takes pride in keeping it that way. If you’re looking for a friendly, laid-back place to camp with a host who truly cares, this is it. We’ll definitely be back!

Liked We loved the idyllic, rustic setting. The yard offered ample space for our tent (and for others, though we were alone on a weekday night). We were greeted upon arrival by a waddling of friendly ducks, and the cows in the adjacent field gathered at the fence to meet us! We woke in the early morning to a dawn chorus of birdsong, which was fabulous. The location is quiet and peaceful, yet close enough to town, very close to Lough Neagh (and Portmore Lough), an easy drive to Belfast. While we expected to be roughing it in our small tent, we were delighted to learn there was a quite large cabin available to us with a toilet, shower, refrigerator, and a wide array of cooking options (in addition to the outdoor pizza oven). The wifi was strong and reliable. Beyond the range of amenities on offer, we most appreciated the warm hospitality we received from our gentle host, Edwin, who was good enough to share a bit of the history of the property, and who did much to assure we were as comfortable as we could be (such as thoughtfully bringing us chairs to sit in by our tent). He and his wife exude kindness, and we so enjoyed visiting briefly with them (and with their especially welcoming neighbor, Kate). We certainly hope to have the opportunity to do so again, and we both highly recommend Lisieux House to any campers hoping for a restful, private escape to a little patch of paradise!

Local attractions

This part of Co. Armagh is full of wildlife, and some of the best places to see it nearby are RSPB NI Montiaghs Moss Nature Reserve and RSPB Portmore Lough Belfast, both about five minutes’ drive away. The first of these is an Irish bog habitat where you can stroll along a boardwalk to see dragonflies and damselflies; the latter is a great place to settle in the hide to look out for birds including lapwings, swans and skylarks (depending on the season). For more wildlife watching, head to Oxford Island Nature Reserve (20 minutes’ drive) on the banks of Lough Neagh, or meet more exotic species like lemurs, crocodiles and emus at C&J’s Animal Park (25 minutes). If you’d like a different kind of day out, maybe head towards Lurgan (15 minutes) to visit 19th-century Brownlow House or get active at Craigavon Golf & Ski Centre. Belfast (40 minutes) is surely worth a day trip too – the city has lots to see, including the Titanic Belfast museum, Crumlin Road Gaol and St George’s Market.
