Watertop Open Farm: Campsite

General

  • Family-friendly camping on a hill farm near Ballycastle, County Antrim
  • Walks and bike rides on site; a 10-minute drive to Ballycastle beach
  • Serviced pitches on a dark skies site with hot showers and livestock

Here’s the chance to spend quality time outdoors with loved ones, with loads of space to roam and for kids to play. Want to experience rural life on a working hill farm? The folks running the family campsite at Watertop Open Farm near Ballycastle in County Antrim have been welcoming guests for more than 30 years, so they must be doing something right.

They’re doing absolutely everything right as it turns out. For starters: fully serviced pitches with hot showers, a play area for kids and lots of cuddly livestock to befriend, plus safe off-road paths around the farm for campers to explore.

Having said that, if you’re looking for party nights, kids’ clubs and TVs in your tent, this site is possibly not your cup of tea...

On the other hand, if you’re after spectacular coast and hill views, and traffic-free hiking or biking routes amid forests, waterfalls and mountains, you’re definitely in the right place. As a couple of added bonuses, you’re pretty much guaranteed quiet nights of sound sleep in the peaceful north-coast countryside, and thanks to the lack of light pollution hereabouts, on clear nights you can spot a gazillion stars twinkling up above.

Please note

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

There is a nice laid back atmosphere at this campsite.
    Well maintained and clean.
    Beautiful views and surroundings.
    Electric hook ups.
Our kids 8, 9 and 10 loved the place as plenty to do - slide, go-carts, crazy golf, table tennis (all a little old but that didn't matter to the kids) and lots of cycle paths and animals to visit in fields etc.
Indoor fire was great for rainy nights.
Some firepits and wood which can be rented/bought.
Picnic tables were a much welcomed bonus to the campsite.
Bathrooms have sockets for open use.

We have already planned a return trip.

    Disliked:

Only very minor issue was the camping plots are quite close together which means if you arrive with large family tent, dog and noisy kids (like us) you can feel like you are imposing on your neighbours a little.
We requested a move from a middle plot to an end plot and owner was happy to oblige as this was possible.
