Setting up

  • Rural Wiltshire site 15 minutes' drive from the North Wessex Downs
  • White Horse at Uffington 20 minutes’ drive; Oxford 40 minutes
  • Yoga and meditation workshops on site; barbecues provided
Surrounded by the spectacular Wilshire countryside and agricultural land, peaceful Daisy’s Farm has large pitches on an ancient ridge and furrow grassy field that forms part of a three-acre smallholding growing summer fruits and vegetables. Staying here puts you within easy reach of not one, but two areas of outstanding natural beauty: the North Wessex Downs (15 minutes’ drive) and the Cotswolds (half an hour). Meanwhile, Swindon is a 20-minute drive on the A420, should you require shops or big-town attractions during your holiday. However, chances are you’ll be happy to soak up the natural vibes, make friends with the resident geese and explore the local woodlands with your dog, who is a welcome guest here. Perhaps you’d like to have a go at the Ridgeway, an ancient track that goes past the Neolithic remains at Wayland’s Smithy (10 minutes) and the chalk-cut White Horse at Uffington (20 minutes). Throughout the summer, the owners also run workshops on spiritual development, focusing on things like meditation and yoga – if that’s your jam, don’t forget to pack your mat. There are also evening singing sessions around the communal fire. Nearby villages and hamlets like Wanborough and Ashbury (both 10 minutes) beckon with pretty stone cottages and thatched houses
not to mention a handful of country pubs serving traditional meals and real ales, which you can savour in front of a roaring fire or in the beer garden. If you’d rather do your own cooking, barbecues are provided, and you can source your provisions in Shrivenham (five minutes) or at a well-stocked supermarket a 10-minute drive away. The site also has a toilet block, hot-water showers and a washing-up area.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked Decent sized pitches, lovely setting, loos fine, nice warm shower with shampoo etc., quiet, very rural, not commercialised, efficient (re payment etc).
This was our first time out in a camper van so don't have anything to compare it to, but this campsite suited us and we were very pleased with everything.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked We had the whole site to ourselves for some of our stay.
Beautiful site. Good sized pitches.
Lovely shower. Clean and functional toilet.
Good location.
Mel was lovely and very helpful.
Fire pit and BBQ rental on site.
Very peaceful over night.
Quiet night rules.
No lighting other than just outside the toilet.
Easy access to the Ridgeway for some excellent walks.

Disliked Only cold water for washing up.
Only 1 toilet and shower with 1 composing toilet.
Not a problem at all for our stay but if all the pitches were full could have been a squeeze.
Some road/ train noise but not enough to keep us awake.

Peaceful site in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked Easy to get to from the M4 but far enough away from civilisation to connect with nature. Such a pretty site with a lovely laidback hippie vibe. Extra large pitch sizes so plenty of space. Spotlessly clean facilities - composting loo, "normal" loo, large shower room with piping hot water & plenty of hooks & benches & an outdoor washing up area. Recycling bin, dog waste bin, general waste bin & Elsan disposal point - not something you always have on an eco site so that was a nice bonus. The owner, Melanie, was very friendly & accommodating & I joined her partner for a guided meditation in the woods on Sunday morning which was really special.

Disliked Nothing to dislike

Local attractions

Among the displays at Swindon’s STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway (20 minutes' drive) are steam locomotives and rolling stock, including an elegant buffet car from the 1930s. The exhibition devoted to Isambard Kingdom Brunel features items such as the engineer’s drawing equipment and his unusual walking stick. Walking and cycling trails lace the wooded areas and chalky hills of the North Wessex Downs AONB, where highlights include the Avebury stone circle (half an hour), Fyfield Down National Nature Reserve (40 minutes) and Watership Down (45 minutes), which inspired Richard Adams’s famed novel. You may also like to spend a day soaking up the university vibe in Oxford (40 minutes). The Ashmolean Museum has several important collections, including items from ancient Egypt and Rome, Mughal India and samurai-era Japan. For those whose tastes run more modern, there are also several galleries displaying contemporary artists.
