  • Well-kept Wiltshire site 10 minutes’ walk from Lacock village centre
  • A half-hour drive to Bath; 45 minutes to Stonehenge and Longleat
  • Dog-friendly pitches with a playground and dedicated ball games area
What’s on your wishlist for a Wiltshire outdoor break? A peaceful location? Easy access from a main road? A village close by so you can easily walk to a pub and shop? Somewhere family friendly that also accepts dogs? If you said ‘yes’ to any – or indeed all – of the above, you’ll most likely be rather taken with Piccadilly Caravan Park, in a rural spot 10 minutes’ walk from the National Trust village of Lacock. That handy position means you’ll have several lovely pubs and independent shops close by. As well as being handily within reach of all that, the park is only a little way off the A350, putting it in a good position for getting out and about to explore the rest of what Wiltshire (and beyond) has to offer. Day trips to Bath and Longleat are easily doable in less than 45 minutes’ drive, and there are all sorts of walks and bike rides to be enjoyed locally. Around the site’s well-kept grounds are hedges for privacy and a good collection of facilities, including picnic areas, a small playground and a designated games field where the kids can have a run around. Dogs, too, have a dedicated exercise area where they can stretch their paws properly. Showers, toilets, a washing-up area and a launderette are also part of the picture, and the team here pride itself on keeping the facilities clean and the grounds in excellent shape.

What customers say

A super clean, peaceful spot near Lacock. Top-notch new showers, though some older loos need a spruce-up. Great for families and doggos, with roomy, flat pitches. Wi-Fi's a bit hit-and-miss, and showers can be temperamental.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.
We're very sorry to hear that you experienced an issue with the hot water over the weekend — it should have been consistently hot throughout the day. We understand how inconvenient this must have been and apologise.

We're pleased to let you know that the issue has now been resolved.

Liked The new toilet block, very nice and clean,
Grounds well looked after,
Locations good,
Lots of space
New wifi payable but good rates,

Disliked No check in system, lack of security stopping anyone from driving through, all names of guests and pitches on a board out side for all to see.
New (toilet block) has a sign says 11-1 closed for cleaning, use other shower block,
Other shower blockshowers out of order,
Dog not allowed off lead in designated dog field,? No reason for it.
Reception.. noone there all weekend

From the manager: Thank you for your review and for taking the time to share both the positives and areas for improvement — we really appreciate your feedback.

We're really pleased to hear you liked the new toilet block, the well-maintained grounds, the spacious layout, and the value of our new Wi-Fi system. It’s great to know the location suited you too.

We’d also like to address the concerns you raised:

Cleaning times: The main toilet and shower block is cleaned between 11am and 1pm, when it tends to be quieter. During this time, alternative facilities remain available for guest use.

Dog policy: Dogs must remain on a lead in the designated dog field. The field is not fully enclosed, and there is livestock in the neighbouring fields. Sadly, we have experienced a dog attack on our sheep in the past when a dog was off-lead, so this policy is in place to protect our animals and ensure everyone’s safety.

Reception & check-in: With a site of 45 pitches, it’s not cost-effective to have someone permanently at reception. However, we are almost always on-site and usually working nearby. If you need us, there is a phone number displayed in reception, and we’re only ever a few minutes away.

Thanks again for your honest and constructive feedback — it helps us improve, and we hope to welcome you again in the future.

Liked Great location - 10 mns walk from lovely old village with pubs & shops (Lacock), really well laid out pitches & clean facilities. Also large field for dog walking.

Disliked Only issue is not to do with campsite, but have to cross busy main road to visit the village.

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review — we're so pleased you enjoyed your stay!

It’s great to hear you liked the location, the well-laid-out pitches, clean facilities, and the dog walking field. Being just a 10-minute walk from Lacock really is a bonus, and we’re glad you made the most of it.

Regarding the road — you're absolutely right, it can be extremely busy at times. However, if you're patient, there are usually clear moments to cross. There are traffic lights a little way up in both directions, so with a bit of timing, the traffic tends to clear in short bursts.

Thanks again for your feedback — we hope to see you again soon!

Power optional concrete slab caravan site

Liked This was the first time that we have ever stayed in a campsite in our camper, it has always been wild camping up to now.
We loved this place. It is a small campsite, with decent spaces between decent size parking spots.
The facilities were very clean, if somewhat basic (this is not a criticism), but everything we needed was there. We booked a spot with no hook-ups, but everything was there if required. There were drinking water taps available around the site and an elsan point available. This place is great value and we will definitely be back here again.

Disliked Only one minor gripe. We were parked on a hard standing pitch and it could have done with a layer of gravel as the ground around the van was a bit muddy. Probably, being September and the end of the season, this is one of those things that get on to the routine maintenance list each year.

Local attractions

As well as centuries-old traditional pubs and several jewellery or design shops, Lacock is home to a beautifully restored tithe barn dating from c.1230. On the outskirts of this gorgeous National Trust-owned village is an 800-year-old abbey that’s had starring roles in both Downton Abbey and the Harry Potter films; the Fox Talbot photography museum is set in the abbey grounds. Other big-hitting attractions in this corner of Wiltshire include the magical Avebury Stone Circles, which link to a mysterious man-made mound at Silbury Hill (both half an hour’s drive). From there, you can continue the prehistoric theme with a visit to spectacular Stonehenge (45 minutes) and its interactive visitor centre. Coming more up to date, Caen Hill Locks (20 minutes) on the Kennet and Avon Canal comprise 29 locks rising 237 feet over two miles and were designed by engineer John Rennie in 1810. There are golf courses and events galore held at Bowood House and Gardens (15 minutes’ drive), while picture-perfect Castle Combe (20 minutes) has repeatedly been voted one of the prettiest villages in the UK.
