  • Peaceful, gently sloping three-acre site 500 metres from the beach
  • A five-minute walk to the South West Coast Path and an activity centre
  • Pub and two restaurants a five-minute walk away; footpaths locally
From paddles in the sea to a stomp along the South West Coast Path, Porlock Weir Campsite is well-situated for a stay on the Devon seaside. The gently sloping three-acre site is part of the peaceful village of Porlock Weir, home to a pebble beach and small harbour, 35 minutes' drive away from Lynton and Lynmouth. You’ll be able to leave the car behind for a while if you wish, as there’s much to do within five minutes’ walk of the site, whether that’s linking up with the South West Coast Path, going for a potter around the beach or fishing trips from the harbour. Around the corner, still just five minutes’ walk away, there’s an activity centre that will quickly get you going with activities from kayaking, paddleboarding and coasteering to mountain biking, rock climbing, archery or bicycle hire. Food won’t be too far away here either, as the village has a pub and two restaurants – fuel for the splendid walking trails that you’ll find in the surrounding area. The nearest farm shop is 10 minutes’ drive away too, in case you want to grab some locally-produced meat for a barbecue back on site. Back on site, the peaceful seaside spot has views over the Bristol Channel and basic facilities, including a portable toilet and a tap with mains drinking water so that you’ll be able to keep your bottle topped up.

What customers say

Great spot with sea views & peace, near Porlock Weir. Friendly owner, good value. Basic facilities (compost toilet, water) but some sloping pitches & occasional toilet issues. Good for hikers/wild camping.

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Location is perfect, fabulous views, lots of glorious walks straight from the site. Harbour, pebble beach, pub, cafes short walk down the lane. Quiet & peaceful, just the sound of the sea & the birds, this is a camping field with one clean compost loo & one cold water tap - proper old fashioned back to basics camping! It's a farm field on the edge of Exmoor so does slope, but there are flatter areas, so choose carefully if pitching on a slope bothers you. I think you could pitch anywhere & still have a sea view. There are public flush toilets with hand basins 5 minutes down the lane in the carpark if you prefer. No WiFi, but I had great phone reception (Lebara). Personally, this site was perfect for me, has everything I want/need. Owner (Matthew?) super friendly & welcoming, checks site & loo every day. Loved it & will definitely return.

Disliked Nothing.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked near to restaurants and cafes in Porlock Weir, near to South- West- Coast Path

Disliked no level pitches, bit too expensive

From the manager: We are sorry our site didn't come up to your expectations. The sight is advertised and pictured as sloping so other than that, there's not much we can do.... The price we believe is fair, in fact we often get told that we are too cheap given our great location and views on offer! Thanks very much for booking and good luck!!

Basic, very basic but as a solo hiker it did the job for me.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Location was great for me on The Coleridge Way. Having to climb out of Porlock Weir up and over the A39 meant that extra distance from Porlock was a bonus! It is only one step away from wild camping. 1 composting toilet, 1 cold water tap and that’s your lot, for £9 for a hiking tent I am not complaining. It is a sloping site and quite exposed so be aware of that. But really close to pub food, cafes but no supplies I think.

Disliked For £9 per night, per hiking tent, there was nothing I disliked.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Convenient location for SWC ramblers right next to the path so no need to detour after long day hike.
Fantastic view across Porlock marsh and hills. Close to Porlock Weir pub, souvenir shops and b&bs yet secluded and very quiet. It's basic (just compost toilet and bins) but very clean.
Very nice and helpful host.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked We love this campsite and so pleased it's open again for the season. Very basic (a single compost loo and a tap) but such a wonderful location and always manages to lift your spirits. Cheap as chips!

Disliked It's a bit slopey so choose your spot. Less nettles than last year and now a bit of phone signal!

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked A lovely quiet campsite in a beautiful setting!

The site was just as described. Being able to see (and hear) the sea from our tent was really wonderful, and the view of the bay, hills, and horses from the top of the field made it really special.

We liked how simple the site was - we had just what we needed, the water point was well set-up, and the compost toilet was absolutely fine.

Matthew came round and said hi the evening we arrived, and gave us a few suggestions for walks. We enjoyed exploring the area during our trip, had some great walks, and we liked the cafe in Porlock Weir. We're keen to visit again!

Disliked Nothing! Everything was great.

I thought it would be handy if there was a green waste / compost bin on the site, but that's all I could think of :)
