  • Lakeside site among the Exmoor hills
  • Sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding, kayaking and rowing on the lake
  • Walking and cycling trails, playground and café
Ramble around Wimbleball for some staggering views of this lake cradled by the Exmoor hills... The area's extensive shoreline, secluded inlets, and shimmering waters mean that Wimbleball Lake Campsite is a fisherman’s fairyland, with recent seasons having seen rod averages top four fish per angler. The necessary fishing licences are available on site, and only fly fishing from the banks is permitted. On top of the great fishing, the lake offers an excellent range of watersports (sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, paddleboarding and rowing). There are well-designed trails for cyclists and walkers, and a playground to keep the kids occupied while you polish off a cream tea in the café. Wimbleball takes its green credentials very seriously (it has a gold award from the Green Business Tourism Scheme) and does some important conservation work, so the birdwatching and wildlife spotting here is excellent. Guests will be able to see some of the nocturnal residents too, such as the long-eared brown bats.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: The size of the campsite and the facilities being spotlessly clean. It was great to bring our dogs and not be charged extra.

Hazel Park unpowered grass tent site (overflow)

Liked: Quiet campsite with great views. Shower block was clean and Wi-Fi also at shower block which meant I could check my emails etc. If required. Friendly greeting on arrival.

Disliked: Due to being in overflow camp area the grass on the way to the toilet block was allowed to grow on foot paths which meant when it rains you ended up with wet feet unless you wear wellies which in August I didn't think to bring. There is also a small playground for the kids which requires some attention as some of the swings etc. We're broken and could not be used. The pitches in the overflow site were on a slight slope . There is a cafe on site which is a little run down and well over priced for what is available.

Powered concrete and grass motorhome site

Liked: First time camping so nothing to compare to.

Disliked: some power points weren't working so had to use next doors. only four toilets, and 10 minutes after being cleaned were soiled by some chimps Large family moved near by second day, shouting, loud music, They went out for the day,but as there are no staff here didn't want to take a chance on how bad they'd be at night ,so left after one day.

Powered concrete and grass motorhome site

Liked: The lake, the views the facilities.

Disliked: The time on the showers. The apparent lack of control in pitch control. Staff not ensuring you get what you have paid for. Great view and lake, but! We booked a weekend here with an electric hook up. Unfortunately we were unable to get the allocated pitch on the first night and weren't given an electric hook up as anither camper was in the wrong location blocking 2 pitches. The staff put us on a hardstanding for the night without electrics even though we had paid for it. They seemed reluctant to move the other motor home. A couple more campers on site had similar problems with the pitch allocation. I beleive the additional charge for accessing the lake for campers is a little expensive. This should be either included in the camping price or reduced by 50%
