  • Farm site over 270 acres, two miles from the Quantock Hills
  • Help feed the farm pigs, sheep and chickens
  • Footpaths and woodland to walk; maps provided; breakfast available
Foodies: this is the site for you. Huntstile Organic Farm, in the foothills of Somerset’s Quantock Hills, knows its food inside and out and backwards too. Owners Lizzie and John are fervent about good food grown simply, locally and well, and their 270-acre site grows, produces and rears top-quality produce of all flavours. Huntstile is also in an area of low light pollution: alfresco suppers and then lying beside the tent and looking up at the stars sounds like a holiday you might like to hunt anywhere… Guests can help feed the farm pigs, sheep and chickens (just ask the staff) and if you ask very nicely, the farm cats and dogs might take you walkies around the footpaths, fields, woodland and farm structures like the 16th-century seed granary (Huntstile has been a farm since at least the 11th century and surrounds a 14th-century farmhouse). If you prefer to self-guide, pick up a map from the dining room and take a tour around the farm or take one of the walks up to the Quantock Hills starting directly from the farm gate; John and Lizzie can provide maps for other nearby walks to their homemade stone circle and through ancient woodland. Toilets and showers with free hot water a short walk away, and there's also access to a guest fridge with freezer space. Kids can also have a bouncingly good time in summer on the big garden trampoline. Dedicated electric vehicle charging points are available. Breakfast is available between 08.30 and 10.00 daily, while pizza nights and a licensed bar are on offer on Wednesdays and Fridays in the evening. Here on Sunday? Lunch is available too.

Local attractions

Huntstile is five miles from Bridgwater, eight from Taunton and about 20 minutes’ drive from the coastline of highly recommended Kilve beach, with the Quantock Hills and Somerset villages along the way. Ask Lizzie and John for tips or go in whatever direction takes your fancy: northish to the coast, south to Taunton, east and north east to Glastonbury and Cheddar, and west to the Brendon Hills and then Exmoor Forest. Weston-super-Mare, Minehead, Bristol and Cardiff are all within 25 miles. Around 20 minutes’ drive takes you to Ramscombe, a picnic spot fave of the Huntstile staff, as it has loads of space for running and kicking a ball around, brooks to dam, purpose-built barbecues for lunch (and dinner), and a two-mile Red Walk suitable for most abilities. Also head for Hestercombe House, overlooking the nearby Blackdown Hills and featured on the BBC’s Gardens Through Time. The formal gardens here were designed by Gertrude Jekyll and Sir Edward Lutyens and have 40 acres of woodland walks, an orangery and a temple.

Unpowered grass and earth tent, campervan or trailer tent site (wild)

Liked Was a perfect place for an overnight stop as they catered for late arrivals. It was nice to turn up and find an envelope at reception with all the information we needed.
We were on the top field and the views were beautiful and it was very quiet.
Easy 10 min drive from the motorway.
It's a shame we had to be on the road again in the morning as it would have been nice to stay longer and sample their breakfasts!

Powered grass and earth tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked Another fabulous holiday! We love this site, it’s peaceful and quiet with stunning views. We stay in the Lower Orchard which is very pretty. The courtyard is a lovely place to sit and have a drink. The children can roam free safely, playing on the trampoline and exploring the forrest school. They enjoy joining in with feeding the animals in the morning. The facilities are always kept clean and tidy and there is always hot water at the showers. The staff are very welcoming and helpful and the owners are genuinely lovely people. The pizza is out of this world delicious! The breakfast is also fabulous with amazing home made bread for the toast. We’ll be back next year.

Liked we loved the remoteness of our pitch. Felt almost like wild camping! Amongst wildlife and organic countryside. Dog friendly, relaxed easy

Disliked power line a few fields away but can’t be helped

Unpowered grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked Pizza night, feeding the animals, the view of the sunset. The staff were all lovely and really helpful.

Disliked The pitches were right next to one another and allocated so we couldn't have a more private spot. Paid £24 for 2 coffees, a can of sprite & a box of firewood.

From the manager: Hi Danielle
Thank you for leaving your review - I'm glad to hear that your family had a nice time here camping at Huntstile Farm!

Families with children are given priority booking into the lower orchard, as that is usually the most popular, being quite close to facilities, and having the shade from the apple trees and the additional shelter of the Roundhouse. However, we also have several other options which include some larger pitches and some that are a bit more remote, such as along the wild flower meadow and the top of the field - as we explain in the paperwork you just need to ask one of us if you would prefer to be in a different location.

Price-wise: Firewood is £15 for a large crate (we also can do 1/2 crate for £7.50) and in the café our speciality coffees are £3 each (you can have a filter coffee for less) and a 330ml can of Sprite is £2.50 - the prices are on display and we give you the price for a crate of wood when you arrive.

There is a Tesco express in the village and there are other options for firewood like the local garage, but our wood is well priced for the amount that you get.
I hope that helps explain things a little better.

Kind regards,
Lizzie & John

Liked Quiet and pretty pitch but with the addition of things to keep the kids busy

Disliked Small pitches so had to bring our smaller tent. Not a major issue though.

From the manager: Thank you for your review - its good to know you enjoyed your stay here!

Our smallest pitch is 10mteres by 8metres with extra space for your car, and we do have a few larger pitches. So... if you need extra space for a BIG tent, its always good to ask if you could have one of these larger pitches when you book.
Thank you for visiting Huntstile Farm and we hope to see you again soon!
