  • Stay alongside one of the oldest cider pubs in Somerset
  • Regular live music and events in the barn
  • Large sheltered field two minutes' walk from the pub
Cider connoisseurs: you’ll find this site most sweet indeed. Tucker's Grave Inn is a traditional cider pub that’s one of the oldest in Somerset: its doors first opened to thirsty travellers over 200 years ago… The pub these days has been unchanged for over a century: no TVs, flashing fruit machines or noisy jukeboxes here, just a friendly and lively vibe, a community of locals and visitors… and a roaring open fire to curl up in front of. ‘A proper pub’, ‘timeless excellence’ and ‘probably the best pub ever’ are a sample of guest views on this lovely old inn… and, as is fitting for such an old place, you might spy a cat snoozing gently on the windowsill too… Tipple options at Tucker's include Butcombe Original straight from the barrel, and a nicely rounded range of traditional ciders such as Cheddar Valley, Black Rat, Rich's and Pheasant Plucker… or you might opt for Mallets sparkling cider, beer… or tea/coffee if you prefer your beverages non-boozy. Whatever you pick, fortify yourself for evenings, as there's regular live music in the barn. Outside, there’s a beer garden with spectacular Somerset views as well as a firepit to cosy around over an evening pint, and the inn also has a skittle alley with a woodburning stove. You can play shove ha’penny in the Tap Room too (yes, kids do regularly become fans of this rather quickly). Camping is in a large sheltered field a nifty two-minute totter from the pub, three and a half miles from the village of Faulkland and about 25 minutes' drive from Bath. There's water access and the site has access to toilets and showers. The site welcomes groups to the site, making every effort to remind them of their quiet-time policy (and in case you're worried about any group getting carried away with excitement, there's a peaceful area set aside from the groups for guests who want extra peace and quiet).

Liked: Ease of checking in at site . Liked the location and range of facilities which had been added to since previous visit . Lots of hot water available . Liked the pub and cider choices Our dog loved the field next to our pitch .

Disliked: The shower block and washing up / emptying waste facility are very basic , particularly in comparison to other sites with similar pricing . A few of the outdoor taps weren’t working , including the one on our pitch .

Unpowered grass site

Liked: Nothing there to dislike, really. Friends staff, reasonably priced drinks, great entertainment on the Saturday night. Staff are friendly, the new toilet and shower block is clean and warm and the location is rural but fab.

Disliked: The weather and mud, but still, the checking in guy was amazing with his tractor, helping out if needed and the ground did improve over the weekend.

Unpowered grass site

Liked: The toilet and shower block was great. Food was good.

Disliked: Having to be towed out of the mud, due to grass pitches being very boggy. Obviously, the site owners have no control over the amount of rain that we have had recently.

Liked: Plenty of room, no fixed pitches. Nice old pub with a good selection of ciders. Decent toilet/shower block. Skittle alley had pool, darts and a Bluetooth speaker you could play your own music on. The parlour (their cafe) is open and weekends with its own bar. Does good reasonably priced food. They have their own music venue in a barn, this has its own bar and seating round the outside. Plenty of outside seating with a large fire pit We sent over Easter weekend and they plenty of entertainment on. Friday night they had a DJ in the parlour, Saturday might a band in the barn and Sunday afternoon a band in the Parlour. They also had an Easter egg hunt for the kids and a treasure hunt for adults where you could win a large box of cider. There is also a footpath from the bottom corner of site to the village of Phillip St Norton where there are some nice pubs. Only passable with wellies at the moment due to the current poor weather but would be nice in summer. The George is well worth checking out for food too.

Disliked: Nothing

Liked: Lovely warm clean facilities. Plenty of room to pitch a tent. Great welcome when I got there.

Disliked: Some tent pitches could be on a slope. Not always serving hot food in the pub and after cycling 73 miles I was looking forward to greatly.

Liked: Good value, very clean toilets and plenty of vey hot water. Old part of pub had great character,

Disliked: Not much, thought it would be a bity noisy at night because of the venue, but wasn't too bad.

Unpowered grass site

Liked: 5* facilities. Never seen any so clean. Really friendly staff - we were put on hardstanding as was a rainy February evening so the grass was boggy. The pub itself is amazing, old-world Somerset cider pub (with affordable pints!). Thanks Tuckers, we will be back.

Local attractions

There are plentiful ways to take in the scenic surrounds while working up a thirst for your evening pint: saddle up for horse or pony treks 10 minutes’ drive away, or head to Bradford-on-Avon to don a captain's hat and navigate a barge through local waterways. If you'd rather just take a walk, a fine place is Westbury (25 minutes), where you can wander off in search of its 55-metre White Horse, carved into the chalk hills. More leisurely days out might take you for a fragrant bimble among the blooms of Somerset Lavender (five minutes' drive) or along the pretty paths at Prior Park Landscape Gardens (15 minutes). Best be allocating a whole day to a trip to Longleat (20 minutes) too, especially if you've got the small sorts in tow; there’s a huge collection of wild beasts to see on the safari trails, and also some rather gorgeous gardens to stroll through. Town times may well feature on your schedule too: you can drive to Bath in around 25 minutes, or take in Wells (35 minutes), Glastonbury (45 minutes) or Bristol (45 minutes).
