  • Dog-friendly site surrounded by the peaceful Dorset countryside
  • Half an hour’s drive from Longleat; an hour from the Jurassic Coast
  • Fishing lake on site; plenty of restaurants, shops and pubs nearby
Crack into the Dorset countryside and wind down with lake views at Shaftesbury Country Touring Park. From cruising down countryside trails to taking day trips down to the Jurassic Coast (an hour’s drive south), this friendly 19-acre rural site is well-positioned for families, including their dogs, to indulge in the outdoors… With a fishing lake on site, you might be able to master your fishing skills… or show off, if you’ve already got some experience under your belt. There’s plenty to keep guests occupied off site too, as the site is five minutes’ drive from Shaftesbury, a market town home to the cute Gold Hill, a famed site paved with ancient cobbles. Shaftesbury has ample cafés, restaurants and pubs where you can fill up on different types of food (or beer, if that’s on your mind). Handily, there’s a well-stocked licensed mini market on site, and a larger supermarket in town in case you need to stock up on more extensive supplies. Other amenities on site include an amenities block and a launderette to help keep you looking your best whether you're off for a day of animal-spotting at Longleat’s safari park, half an hour’s drive away, or perhaps trying to unravel the mystery of Stonehenge, 45 minutes’ drive away.

What customers say

Great campsite! Staff are legends, pitches are top-notch, and facilities are clean. Lovely lake and peaceful vibes. A few bits are a bit retro and you get some road noise, but it's awesome value and people can't wait to come back.

Unpowered grass tent site (two person)

Liked Big spacious pitches, which were actually level! Couple of picnic benches which were great for mealtimes and the little lake is a lovely little addition. Very friendly welcome and only 30 mins from Longleat which was perfect for us

Powered grass caravan site

Liked Great pitch size, would be good if you were motorhoming with others who had a tent as you could be in the same field. Peaceful location, it was very quiet with few guests when we visited. Very helpful staff who greeted me on arrival and explained everything clearly which made life easy. Clean facilities, very tidy well managed site. Good location if you just want to chill at the site or are happy to drive to places to visit, we went into Shaftesbury and also took a 40 min trip to the south coast.

Disliked Limited facilities, 2 toilets and 2 showers in the block near our field which was fine as there were not that many guests, but might be an issue if the field was busy.

From the manager: Hi Nicola

Thank you for your informative review, it gives future prospective campers an insight into our facilities and surrounding areas.
Carl does like a chat when introducing you to the site for the first time.
We take on your comment reference the limited facilities, We do have another shower block and an extra toilet we can make available for when it gets busy.
We look forward to seeing you again

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site (six person)

Liked Perfect location, lovely warm, clean showers and so peaceful. It’s where we call our happy place. Price is brilliant too especially the fact there is a small fishing lake where you can fish for free. Obviously if you have a licence that is. We’ve been 3 times now (twice in the last 2 weeks) and will be returning next year again but for a week next time. Great for dogs (we have 2) and great for a relaxing getaway. And the sunset is so beautiful. Thanks again for a great stay!

From the manager: Hi Lynn

Thank you for a great review.
Its our happy place too, most of the time. So pleased you enjoyed the fishing, hope you caught a few.
Look forward to seeing you next time.

Liked Very friendly and welcoming host.
Very nice tent pitches.
Gas station and supermarket at hand.

Disliked Motorway in the distance (although it is perfectly OK most of the time).

From the manager: Hi Olivier

Just to clear up a small fact, the motorway you mentioned is actually the A30 you can hear.

Thank you for visiting our campsite and we would definitely welcome you again.

Liked Quiet and nice sunset views. Friendly owners.

Disliked Unsanitary bathrooms. I wouldn't use the showers due to the unclean environment. Bathroom facilities needs a full revamping

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi
Thank you for your comments and I am pleased you enjoyed the site.
Although really disappointing comments re the toilet/ shower block, and a we feel it was a bit harsh to give a 2/10 result. We pride ourselves on these as you can see on the previous reviews we were praised for the cleanliness of our facilties.
Unfortunately the toilets/ showers are only as clean as the previous users left them!!. And cannot be checked each time someone visits the toilet, it's impossible.
We are here 24/7 and had we been made aware we would have investigated your problem.
I take on board they are a little tired and need an update but plans are in motion( excuse the pun) to have a refit.

Local attractions

Take a detour into the animal world for a little while… there are several animal-orientated activities within reach of the site, including the family-friendly Farmer Palmer’s Farm Park (45 minutes’ drive) for hands-on farm activities and the Bush Farm Bison Centre (15 minutes), home to bison and elk and woodland walks. On a bigger scale, Longleat (half an hour) has a drive-through safari packed with wild animals. However, it has more than just animals – there’s also an adventure park and over at Longleat House (35 minutes), you can ogle over an Elizabethan house through tours, exhibitions and walks around the formal and pleasure gardens. There are more trips into history at hand too, whether it’s inside Old Wardour Castle (20 minutes), Stourhead’s mansion and landscaped gardens (20 minutes) or Stonehenge (45 minutes). If you want energy-packed afternoons instead, the New Forest National Park (50 minutes) and its hiking and cycling trails may be worth the little longer drive. There are opportunities for watersports in Bournemouth (an hour) or a scenic coastal walk at Durdle Door (an hour) on the Jurassic Coast.
