  • Well-located adults-only Dorset touring park near the A35
  • Poole Quay, Corfe Castle and Monkey World within 20 minutes’ drive
  • Dogs welcome; Lytchett Matravers pubs and shops a mile away
Have a look at this for a conveniently located place to stay in the Dorset countryside – Huntick Retreat is only a little way off the A35, the main road running across the county, and it’s a mere mile from the shops and pubs of Lytchett Matravers. Not that it’s all about the location, handy though it is… this is a site that’s surrounded by lovely views and offers a warm welcome and helpful service to all its guests. It’s an adults-only (16+) setup here, but dogs are welcome and provided with a designated exercise area for a proper stretch of the paws. There are plenty of dog-friendly pubs and attractions nearby too, so they’ll be able to join you on your outings – just ask on site for tips. Dogs will need to be kept on a lead at all times on site, however, because it’s not just human guests that like to pitch up here – the park is also popular with passing wildlife like deer – including a resident stag – badgers, buzzards and hedgehogs, so the owners are keen to make sure they’re not disturbed. Facilities at Huntick Retreat have been well thought out to make life easy for guests – you’ll have access to a launderette and drying room, a washing-up area, a wifi connection, chemical disposal and bathrooms with toilets and showers. Poole (15 minutes’ drive) is your nearest large town for anything you can’t get in Lytchett Matravers.

Awesome spot! Really friendly, quiet, and tidy. Showers are mint, plenty of space on the pads. Great views, handy for exploring. Minor WiFi hiccups, but most want to come back.

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked The pitch that we stayed on was a really good size.

Disliked First impression of the site that it needed a revamp. It felt really run down and needed some attention. I can't comment on the facilities as I didn't use them.

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Quiet site close to Poole. Saw deer grazing in field behind site

Disliked Hardstanding pitch was small and congested. Grass pitches in field were preferable as they surrounded a large green area. No hot water for showers over weekend when busy.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review – it’s greatly appreciated. As an adult-only site, we aim to provide a peaceful and relaxing environment. While children are welcome to visit during the day (between 10am and 6pm), we do not offer entertainment, in keeping with the tranquil ethos of the site.

Kind Regards

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Well maintained grounds with hedges and rustic fences dividing site into sections giving it a "small site" feel. Toilets/showers kept very clean. The level hard-standings a little narrow, but the grass area for each pitch very generous - plenty of room for an large awning.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Nice touch was the subtle clusters of fairy lights in the shrubs along the paths, which came on at dusk, maintaining the gentle countryside feel.
A short, straightforward drive into Poole and it's attractions.

Disliked Not a dislike as such but be aware:
Travelling north on Huntick Road, from Randells Hill end, it is on the left, just after the cross-roads to the school. Sat-nav using post-code directed us that is was on the right, half a kilometre further om!!

Local attractions

Dorset is, of course, well known for its gorgeous landscapes – and it should be pretty easy to check out some of the top spots from here. Both the atmospheric ruins of Corfe Castle and the sparkling waters of the Blue Pool are about 20 minutes’ drive away; alternatively you could set off to the Jurassic Coast for a day at Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door (half an hour), or head for the miles of sandy beach at Studland Peninsula (half an hour). If you fancy a bit of activity among this scenery, perhaps play a round at Bulbury Woods Golf Club (five minutes) or have a go at the madcap floating assault course at Dorset Adventure Park (20 minutes). For more leisurely strolls, board a boat at Poole Quay (15 minutes) for a wildlife trail around Brownsea Island, wander around the National Trust’s Kingston Lacy estate (15 minutes) or set off to see birds at Abbotsbury Swannery (45 minutes). Don’t write off Dorset’s favourite family attractions either – places like Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre (20 minutes), The Tank Museum (25 minutes) and the Swanage Railway (half an hour) have plenty to offer for grown-up days out.
