  • Grass pitches at a well-known Dorset family farm park near Poole
  • Sandbanks beach and Jurassic Coast within a half-hour drive
  • 50% off park entry for campsite guests; food available to order
If proximity to kid-friendly attractions is a consideration for your weekend break, how about going one better and staying right on site at one of Dorset’s best-loved family days out? (No traffic woes for you + a full day out for them = wins all round, surely.) The pitches at Farmer Palmers Farm Park are indeed inside the farm park of the same name, just off the A35 about 15 minutes’ drive outside of Poole town centre. Park up here and you’ll be in prime position for easy access to the park’s play areas (including a maze, a water play area and pedal go-kart area), animal encounters and activities (of which there are many, from pig racing to deer feeding). Every day in the morning, site staff will bring a miniature pony to the pitches for some petting and to say hello. And if you think all that sounds pretty great, you’ll probably be even more keen once you hear that guests who stay on site can pick up a 50% discount on farm park tickets… Beyond the park itself, Dorset is of course a fab place to visit, so plan to spend some time at other local hotspots too: the beaches of Studland and Sandbanks are both about 25 minutes’ drive away and it’s not far to the Jurassic Coast and the Isle of Purbeck attractions. The grass pitching field is surrounded by oak trees and provided with portable toilets and eco showers. For food, luxury breakfast hampers with locally sourced ingredients are also available to order directly to your pitch – for more details, speak to site staff.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: This was our first time camping in a tent with our two children, 5 year old and 2 year old. We had a great time staying sleeping near deer and sheep. Everyone was really friendly. It was really easy to book and very cost effective. We got into farmer palmers for 50% off which was great! Great facilities ( porter loos and showers). Overall had a great time!

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: The campsite was in a large field which had been cut nicely so no nasty prickles to contend with. Lots of space and able to park car next to tent. Toilet was a portaloo but it was very clean. There were three in the field but there was only about 10 tents so that was fine. We had read that you get 50% off entry to the farm so mentioned at reception that we were staying on the campsite and we paid £28.50 for 2 adults, 1 child and 1 baby. We didn’t arrive until 8pm and had a little panic that there were going to be locked gates as we had forgot to call ahead and tell them but it was fine and we found the campsite easily (and weren’t locked out!) Bottled water was supplied in which there was plenty available and regularly restocked in the field. Each morning a pony or donkey was brought round for the children to pet which was lovely. The field next to the campsite had lots of deer in which was nice for children to see (not wild ones). There is a lovely cafe up the road called ‘The Barn Cafe’

Disliked: Bank holiday Monday at 6:50AM. The portaloo cleaning machine arrived which sounded like a very loud chainsaw and disturbed the whole campsite, waking all the children. Not quite the tranquil morning we were hoping for! The showers were a 5 gallon bag full of water which you hang up in the cubicle and release the water on to yourself if you can muster up the courage. It didn't bother us as we were only staying two nights so we just didn’t wash 🤣 No washing up facilities.

Liked: Not over crowded. Select your own pitch with loads of space. Breakfast was amazing and well worth it. Farmer palmers on your door step with plenty to do and the food is also very good. Staff are very friendly and polite. Later checkout so no mad rush to pack up and get out.

Liked: Lovely little place to stay. The friendly deer in the field next door kept the little ones entertained. The pony visit in the morning by staff at farmer palmers was lovely. We had a breakfast box one day it lasted most of our stay it was so big. Plenty of room, loos all clean. Didn’t try showers. 50% off the farm entrance was great we had a lovely day. Defo be a yearly visit.

Liked: We don’t go camping but we have a tent, this place is quite close to our home and gives us the change to do something different with the kids. The site is clean, peaceful and lovely views. You also get offered a breakfast for about £30, it’s all freshly baked and defiantly worth it! Staff are great, and they also offer half price entry on the farm for one of the days. Will be going next year :-)

Liked: One of our best weekends camping with the kids. Campsite was large and spaced out- staff were extremely friendly and helpful. No running water on camping field but we were provided with bottled water as required. Children loved their morning greeting from the farm ponies and enjoyed watching the red deer in the field next to the campsite. We visited the farm on the Saturday and were blown away. So many fun things for the children to do. We ordered the breakfast hamper for the Sunday and took it to the beach which was absolutely perfect and could not believe the quantity and quality of food that we got for the price. Highly recommend if you can get over not having a shower for the weekend or brave the eco showers. Will definitely be returning!

Disliked: Lack of running water/washing up area and eco showers but not a huge deal breaker as so many other aspects were excellent

Liked: Lovely Pop up campsite, plenty of room and you can choose your own camping spot on the field. Bottle water provided as no drinking water available which was lovely. Just the basic of portaloo and there is some showers but we didn't use. Added bonus you get half price entry into farmer palmers which there is plenty for the kids to do and you can get a coffee ☕️

Disliked: It was ment to be a no bbq, gas or electric usage site so we didn't pack anything, yet there was people using bbq etc on the field!!

Liked: EVERYTHING!!! Such a chilled out site, our children absolutely LOVED their stay here, as did the rest of us! The highlight of the weekend was the morning visits from the ponies, one of which had the same name as one of our sons so he was made up! We would spend every weekend here camping if it was an option 😁

Local attractions

Once you’ve met all your animal neighbours at the farm park, there are more exotic species to get to know at nearby Monkey World – Ape Rescue Centre (15 minutes’ drive). Not far from the monkeys is also a chance to get up close to a collection of armoured vehicles at The Tank Museum (20 minutes). This part of the world is also known for its gorgeous coastline, of course, so it’s worth planning to get down to the shore several times: to Poole Harbour (15 minutes) for ferries to the Brownsea Island nature reserve, to Sandbanks beach (25 minutes) for some of the softest sands in the UK, and Durdle Door (half an hour) to view an iconic bit of geology. En route to the coast, you may like to stop off at Corfe Castle (20 minutes), a ruined Norman stronghold on a hillside. And if it’s not the right weather for a trip to the sea, you can still have a water-filled day at Splashdown waterpark (20 minutes).
