Bells at Cleavel Point: Relax and enjoy.

General

  • Coastal glamping site in private woodland on the Isle of Purbeck
  • A 15-minute drive from Corfe Castle and the Swanage Railway
  • Coast views, jetty for kayak launching and pop-up shop on site

Way to sum up Bells at Cleavel Point in a single word? ‘Wow’ should just about cover it… for this gorgeous glamping site is in a mighty fine Dorset spot right by the sea on the Isle of Purbeck, with a rare and enviable 270-degree outlook over Poole Harbour, Brownsea Island and Sandbanks.

And that’s the kind of view you could settle down to stare at for quite some time, right? Feel free to do so… owner Jon and his friendly team will even enhance the experience by renting you a giant bean bag to sprawl out on and a campfire tripod so you can grill up a bit of grub to munch on while you do so – how very splendid.

This scenic site is accessed through the peaceful woodlands of a private estate (you’ll be given a key code for the gate ahead of arrival) so it’s worth bringing along plenty of supplies to ensure you don’t have to haul yourselves away too often. Corfe Castle, 15 minutes’ drive away, is your nearest source of shops (plus pubs and eateries) but there’s also a pop-up shop on site with cold drinks, milk and barbecue bits (both the meat and the wood required to cook it).

Smart glamping options are well spaced around the site for peaceful slumbers – they all have access to drinking water, regularly-scrubbed portaloos and a hot shower.

Please note

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dog Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Reception is unmanned after 8 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Units heavier than 3500 Kg are not allowed.

Units longer than 6 metres are not allowed.

The grocery shop is open between 06/07 and 06/09.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

Gazebos are not permitted on site at any time.

Beautiful location, remote and quiet yet with a great view of Poole across the water in the far distance.

The tents were spacious and not too close together. We stayed with three children (one in a cot which we brought with us) and there was still plenty of room inside.

The hosts were very kind and welcoming.
The facilities were basic (portoloos/shower) but extremely clean (better than many permanent facilities we've used) and perfectly suitable given the beautiful location and isolated location of the camp site.

Everything. The location is stunning, the tents are spacious and the hosts were great. The dogs loved it and so did my nephews. As it is on a huge estate, it’s not that close to shops but luckily there’s an on-site shop that has everything you’ll need (including marshmallows). The pizzas on-site were great and so was our breakfast roll. The portaloos were clean and the site was quiet!

Tent was lovely, clean and huge!! Our pitch over looked the water towards Poole and Sandbanks.
We were given a warm welcome by Jon and made to feel at home. The toilet and shower were clean. The kitchen mess tent was very useful and gave us somewhere to wash up.
The area was beautiful, plenty of land around to play in /walk through.
    Site is dog friendly.

    Disliked:

The shower was tiny. Nowhere to hang clothes/towel while you showered and no dry space to get dressed after the shower.
We picked up after our dog as we always do but others had clearly not been so considerate and there were a number of piles of dog mess around the field.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.

Showers are portable as listed.
Hot as always.
The tent next to the showers can be used for changing etc.

Dog poo? No. Rabbit poo. It's a field.
You were the first customers to stay on site this yr with a dog. And one other.

Point to note;

Please do not collect wood from the estate.
It provides a natural habitat for wildlife.
Either bring or buy onsite as we keep it here.

Many thanks for booking.
Jon. Manager.

Well what a fantastic find ! This site has just what you need if you are after a peaceful get away.

The yurt huts are cosy, comfortable and the blow up beds are actually more comfortable than my own. I would also recommend paying a little extra for the bedding as its comfy plus you save space not having to bring sleeping bags / own bedding.

The facilities are minimum, dishwashing area, porta loo toilets, heated porta shower and running water but what else do you need.

There is no power so let that phone/tablet battery run dry, light your firepit, open a bottle of local Dorset Cider and Chillax!

The views out over to Poole Harbour are fantastic and there is access to the water via a small beach (but only at high tide).

We where there during the Air Festival so we had our own personnel fly by from the red arrows, spitfires and may more

We have to young boys (4 & 2) and they had a ball of a time so much space to run around play football, perfect for kite flying with the breeze from the sea and the owners very friendly dogs would come to visit and the boy's would play catch.

The site is a ten minute drive from Studland and Swanage which have amazing beaches and facilities. I would highly recommend if your not a National Trust Member to get it if visiting this area as it will save a small fortune!

The Camp site organisers are fantastic and will make you feel welcome and tend to your needs with a smile.

Now if you'll excuse me am just going to re-book for next year !!

    Happy Camping

Local attractions

You may possibly decide simply to stay put for the duration of your stay but it really is worth getting out to see a bit more of your splendid Purbeck surrounds. Start by getting a feel for coast and countryside by bringing along kayaks to launch from the site’s jetty, or heading out on walking or mountain bike trails around the peninsula.

Once you’ve pottered locally, set out for some of the area’s other pretty spots: perhaps the famed ruins of Corfe Castle (15 minutes’ drive), the nature reserve and stunning beaches at Studland Bay (20 minutes), the fossil-foraging beach at Kimmeridge (half an hour) or the huge stone arch at Durdle Door (40 minutes).

Something for the kids (and the big kids)? Try a steam-hauled ride on the Swanage Railway (15 minutes), floating inflatable madness at Dorset Adventure Park (15 minutes), rural animal-spotting at Farmer Palmer’s Farm Park, watching the apes in action at Monkey World or wandering among the military heavyweights at The Tank Museum (all half an hour).
