  • Family-run holiday park with stunning views over Woolacombe beach
  • Three-mile sandy beach 15 minutes' walk away along a footpath
  • Indoor and outdoor pools, restaurant and kids' activities on site
Sandy beach on your holiday wishlist? You got it. As the name suggests, Woolacombe Sands Holiday Park is in an excellent location for days spent on the sands of Woolacombe, on the north Devon coast. A path runs from the site to the beach, taking you down there in about 15-20 minutes without the need to get on the road. And what a beach this is, with three miles of gorgeous golden sand, some rockpools to pole about in, and gentle waves for swimming and bodyboarding. Add in summer lifeguards to keep everyone safe and a regular beach cleaning routine and it’s easy to see why this has previously been voted Britain’s best beach. Being so close by, you’ll be able to wander down whenever you like – and you’ll still be able to look at it while you’re on site too, as the pitches are in an elevated position overlooking the sea. And what might you get up to while not down at the beach? Well, this family-run park has been in operation for more than 30 years now, and over that time it’s developed a great list of ways to keep everyone happy while on site. The long list of leisure facilities includes indoor and outdoor swimming pools, an amusement arcade, UV bowling, crazy golf, a play park and a kids’ club with all sorts of fun activities (circus skills, painting and bug hunts among them). Keeping everyone fed is easy too – barbecues are allowed, and there’s a well-stocked shop on site, or you can grab a table at the Clubhouse for meals and drinks along with evening entertainment. Dogs are welcome at this park, with a pet wash area provided; human facilities are just as good, with five bathroom blocks and a launderette.

Liked: Clean site well maintained, easy access on foot to Woolacombe a little muddy at times, excellent food in Clubhouse was a surprise, huge understanding pitches

Disliked: Showers were a little too cool for my liking, Beer in club house wasn't great the Monterey was flat a couple of times and according to site girls is better than the bottles of Pinot Grigio on offer, site is a hilly location it was fine for us but may affect others holiday, Wi-Fi good in clubhouse but useless at pitch, fyi 3UK only has 3G here, Vodafone had good useable 4G
