  • Off-grid camping with secluded grass pitches in the Devon countryside
  • Five minutes’ drive to Dartmoor National Park; Castle Drogo 25 minutes
  • Shared barn with kitchen and games room; high-season pool and sauna
Set in 4.5 acres of gorgeous Devon countryside near Okehampton, Middle Corscombe Farm is a place that's just got a small number of off-grid grass pitches cleverly hidden away from each other in paddock and meadow landscapes. Each pitch is nicely secluded to give the feeling of an exclusive hideaway for large family groups, single families or loved-up couples. Whether you’re after a rural stroll to spot the wildlife (look out for deer leaping across the meadow), helping the kids to build a den or enjoying a picnic by a gurgling stream, there’s plenty of room for everyone to lose themselves around the grounds. Kids can play Pooh sticks, and you can all watch the sunset together from around the campfire or eat alfresco on warmer days. If the weather's behaving, have a leisurely dip in the swimming pool (open during high season only). On any rainy days, magic your cares away in the sauna (also only open during high season), or simply drift down to the repurposed hay barn to cook and chat with fellow guests in the campers’ kitchen (powered by wind turbine and a solar panels, so eco-credentials are excellent here) and dine out on the covered decking. Feeling idle? Laze away the hours on nattily upcycled denim sofas in the living area; if the kids get restless, send them to burn off energy with a game of pool or table football. If you need to restock edible goodies, supermarkets in Okehampton (10 minutes’ drive) are your best bet. Note that disposable barbecues are not permitted on site.

Meadow unpowered grass tent site (shaded)

Liked: We loved everything! Lloyd and Lisle were so welcoming and helpful. The barn is a really special space with loads of great books, games & a wonderful kitchen with an aga to use for cooking if you don’t feel like being by your tent. Everything was spotlessly clean - even though it was a bit wet & muddy! We were in the lower camping space and it was perfect - sheltered from the rain and the children loved the forest walk. We managed to use the pool in the short time it was sunny and the children loved it! Such an amazing place - I almost don’t want to tell anyone! We’ll definitely be back.

Paddock unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Lovely site with exceptionally friendly hosts. The site is beautifully maintained and really peaceful. The Barn is a great addition as is the pool and sauna. Close to loads of local amenities but once you are on the farm it feels really secluded. Take time to check out the woodland walk and meet the gorgeous neighbouring cows.

Disliked: The eco credentials are great, but a couple of charging points wouldn't go amiss. ;-) Maybe a bit more light on the toilets but appreciate what is there is all solar powered.

Paddock unpowered grass tent site

Liked: We loved it at Middle Corscombe Farm. We found the campsite to be really conveniently located close to the A30, with brilliant facilities. This was our first time camping with our kids and they had a great time. The pool was fabulous (luckily we had a hot, sunny day as the water was quite cold!) and a real bonus for the price. We really loved the barn, brilliant as a place to hang out other than the tents and were not expecting it to be so well equipped with everything we needed to cook, and lots of games and books. The shower facilities were excellent - all solar/wind powered and lovely and warm, and kept clean and well maintained. We also liked that the pitches were nicely made up, flat and spread out with meadow in between. Lloyd and Lisle, the owners, were kind and helpful. As a tiny campsite, we had the place to ourselves for one night which was lovely, and when another party joined ours we were lucky & it worked so well - they were all adults so there was no problem or clash of preferred timings to sign up to use the pool and kitchen.

Meadow unpowered grass tent site (shaded)

Liked: - Friendliness of the owners. - Great facilities e.g. sauna (bookable), showers, communal games room, communal kitchen (bookable) - proximity to A30 junction, Okehampton facilities, Dartmoor

Disliked: Only minor gripes were: - limited car parking all away from the pitches (which was clearly indicated upfront) - grass paths to pitches are slanted on hillside, tricky at night and when wet

Meadow unpowered grass tent site (shaded)

Liked: Beautiful place, nature, peaceful. Good facilities, including a fridge, log burner, and a lot of kitchen equipment in the shared barn. Could be awkward to rely on that though, as you have to book slots in the kitchen if you are sharing the site with another group (I was all alone so no problem!) Pool and sauna lovely to have but only 11-3 for campers usually. Great for access to Dartmoor and The Granite Way, made use of both. Loved the eco friendly features, solar panels, wind turbine, good recycling.

Disliked: Approach via a really narrow lane, steep drive and a closed gate which gave no indication of being a campsite, so was unsure which gate at first. I loved the site as a lone camper but would find it awkward sharing and having to book slots for pool and kitchen, also very limiting if you can only use the pool for an hour, having paid a premium for the site. I paid £30 per night plus a membership fee, no reduction for a single camper, so quite expensive. Was dismayed when the owner made a big fuss over 2 friends coming to the barn for a cup of tea when they had dropped me off after a Dartmoor walk. We had been saying how lovely it was, how we would recommend it to so many people etc, then got a telling off. We all felt this was petty and unreasonable, especially as I was paying the same as two people for 3 nights and my friends were there for about an hour and a half. It really spoiled the vibe, and the rest of my stay, to be honest, so we won't personally recommend it to anyone, but feel this is a fair and honest review.

From the manager: Sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay but you haven’t given the full picture. I absolutely defend my position on challenging why people are on my site without a booking or any consultation / permission with me, surely you would do the same if this was your home? For clarity they weren’t just dropping you off your friends also decided to store their bikes in our communal barn for the day. Personally I find this rude and disrespectful and just assuming it is ok is not acceptable. I think you should also refer to our site policies where it clearly states visitors and their vehicles are not permitted. Having said that, we are very reasonable people and try to accommodate guests needs as best as we can but clearly we need to be consulted in order to help.

Paddock unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Loved the rustic style of the site, each pitch with long grass and wild flowers surrounding them. Also good size pitches. The whole site was so clean and tidy and the owners where very helpful and pleasant, helping us take all our kit to our pitch. The site was all enclosed so the kids (6&10) could go off on their own and we knew they were safe, but could still explore at their leisure in the meadows, and barn. The barn was a great idea, nice and homely, with plenty to keep the kids busy. Also came in handy when it was really hot, there was somewhere cool to go. The kitchen had lots of things in case you had forgotten anything. The kids loved cooling off in the pool each afternoon, again lovely and clean, well maintained. The toilets and washing up area were also very clean, with soap, tea towels and brushes. This site it a great location for lots of walking on Dartmoor, we walked each day, there is also a garage and farm shop within a 5 min drive. Loved staying here and plan to come back again.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

Paddock unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Very well organised with lots of space around each pitch. Good, clean facilities with most things you could think of needing. The pool was lovely. We had the top pitches which was nice and open.

Disliked: The only thing we missed was a flat area to play ball games with the children. The top pitches would potentially get very hot as there is no shade there. Not a dislike but just to note that you can’t park next to your tent so everything needs carrying/wheelbarrowing. The owner did help with his Land Rover, so takes a little bit longer to set up/pack down.

From the manager: Many thanks for your feedback it is appreciated The 3 paddock pitches are south facing so do get a lot of sun which is ideal for some campers, for those that like it cooler we have another 2 pitches in our meadow which is shaded by trees and next to the stream. Campers can also bring gazebos to provide shade and we do have an 81 square metre barn which has seating and tables to play games and escape the sun on hot days and rain on wet days. In addition there is a a mezzanine for children to play pool, table football or air hockey. We also have an acre wood which can be used by guests with a clearing at the far end. All feedback is appreciated and will help us improve our communication for next year.

Fantastic campsite they have leveled off the pitches nicely.
