  • Bell tents at a quiet Devon site 15 minutes' drive from Newton Abbot
  • A 20-minute drive to Dawlish beach, Exeter and Dartmoor
  • Double bed and firepit/barbecue provided; fully equipped kitchen
A secluded slice of Devon countryside no doubt sounds pretty good on its own – but it gets better when you learn that Naturally Glamping is easily accessed from the A380, thus saving you from any worries about finding your way down little country lanes. This lovely location is part of a peaceful rural Devon working farm about 15 minutes’ drive from Newton Abbot, and it’s a place that’s all about relaxed stays – think lake views, woodland walks and a stream running down to a lake that connects to the river below. Unsurprisingly, it’s a bit of a wildlife haven too, and you may well spot glow worms and bats at night thanks to the lack of lighting around this off-grid place (although there is minimal solar electricity for when you need it). The surroundings may be pleasingly wild here but the accommodation certainly isn’t – in fact, the bell tents are rather smart, with a double bed made up ready for your arrival and all sorts of extra bits including bunting, fairy lights, rugs and a lantern to create a cosy atmosphere. Outdoor furniture is supplied too, along with a firepit/barbecue (just the place to settle down for an evening tending the grill while you admire the views…) There’s plenty of space here too, as the tents are set well apart in a 2.5-acre meadow. For facilities, it’s a short walk to the toilet and shower. There is also an outdoor kitchen, which is an airy, covered space with one open side for views. The kitchen includes an oven, a large fridge-freezer and everything you need to cook, including basic cooking ingredients. Elsewhere around the site you can wander off to meet the horses and alpacas or head over the stepping stones to access several miles of forest trail (heading all the way to the local pub if you wish).

Matt bell tent (five person)

Liked: We absolutely loved our stay here with our children aged 10,8 and 4, they all enjoyed it so much. We were lucky enough to be right by the river and loved adventuring over it into the woods. The tent included little extras like tea, coffee and marshmallows which was a lovely treat! The kitchen is a great addition with everything you could need to borrow while there. We even enjoyed the steep hill - it added to the adventure! Thank you for a lovely stay.

Porcha bell tent

Liked: Great little find. My son (7.5 years old) and I loved the experience. Great location and facilities. Showers great and the new kitchen facility was helpful. Would definitely stay again. Staff on site helpful too. There was a little problem with the electricity but all ok within a few hours. Camping without the hassle and discomfort! 👍

Disliked: Not a dislike for us but those without a 4x4 may find the access and egress challenging in a car. Doable but steep.

Dec bell tent

Liked: The bell tent was nice and clean, beautiful location

Disliked: The steep hill is not advertised properly down to the campsite. It's treacherous. If you are older or large it will kill you trying to walk up and down with all your camping gear. Only for the fit and brave or with a proper 4x4. Also no water on the morning we left so the toilet situation was not ideal. Unfortunately would not go there again, and the couple next to us left within 2 hours as the walk to the tents was so bad that the chap even had a fall. And if you do go take your own plates, cutlery, glasses etc. as they are not provided.

From the manager: Thanks for the feedback. Pleased you enjoyed the tent and appreciated the location. Unfortunately, part of the parcel of the stunning remote setting is tricky access. We do have in the terms when you book that access is not good. We also send out information in great detail about access, the track and parking situation. Yes the water pressure was very low in the toilets themselves (outdoor tap was fine) for 2hrs (these things happen when you're running a business in a field and have had to set up all the facilities and services), but we got it fixed very quickly. There are plates, cutlery, glasses etc provided in our new outdoor communal kitchen. Again, all explained in the very detailed arrival info we send. Thanks

Dec bell tent

Liked: We’ve just got back from a 4 night stay in Dec. The information received before arrival was very informative and helpful. The welcoming touches in the tent upon arrival made it so special, even the fact that we had booked 2 adults and 1 child and at booking and in the information given before arrival it said that everything provided (bed, bedding, chairs, plates, mugs etc) would be for 2 occupants and that we would have to bring extra for the extra person (this was absolutely fine we knew upon booking and we were ok with it) but when we unzipped the tent there was a bed made up for my daughter, a 3rd chair had been added, a 3rd mug, 3rd hot water bottle etc, it just made it feel very special….thank you. The site is gorgeous and the facilities provided are very clean, including the new kitchen with everything available that you might need to cook on eat off of etc. We will definitely be back!

Disliked: I can’t say that the car loved the hill to access the campsite but it made it down and back up again a few times and it made it even more of adventure so it’s all good.

Liked: Beautiful place as always, our girls loved exploring outside our tent. Very local to towns and things to do for the family. The new communal kitchen is a fantastic idea and was well used, especially the fridge freezer.

Zippy bell tent

Liked: The setting is beautiful, the tents are perfect and the toilets and showers are just what you need!

Disliked: There are a few more tents in the field than the advert shows, but they were far enough away that it did not feel crowded. Would just advise them to update the pictures in future!

Zippy bell tent

Liked: We recently stayed here and it was beautiful. The location is out of the way so it makes you feel like you are in the wild. There are only a few tents so there is a lot of room between them. Really dog friendly and lots of additional extras provided. Especially loved the fact they left hot chocolate and marshmallows. The facilities were great, surprised at how good the shower was. They also provided some great recommendations for food and wild swimming (which was brilliant). All in all we loved this spot and will hopefully visit again soon. 100% recommend.

Peggy bell tent

Liked: The campsite was beautiful, directions to the site and to the pitch clear and helpful. Self check in straight forward :-)

Disliked: Unfortunately when I arrived late at night the bed wasn’t made up with no sheets available. I left for the night to not disrupt other guests alongside pretty extreme social anxiety. Host responsive and arranged for the bed to be made the following day. The following evening when I returned my belongings had been removed from the tent. Text conversation with one of the staff members suggesting they could communicate to staff on site. I explained my puppy’s food had been removed. Belongings returned to tent the following day with an apology for the miscommunication with communication with another staff member over email. Requested partial refund due to inconvenience (unable to use the shower block as toiletries were in the bag of belongings moved) however this has been refused. I was willing to move on as I appreciate its rare but these things affected my stay.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I'm really sorry about the issues, but as I said if you had called me I could have sorted you another tent upon your arrival straight away. Again, if you called me r.e your belongings I could have got the cleaner to bring them straight to you. We do also have toiletries in the shower/changing rooms. Our number is on all emails and also on the welcome pack in the tent. Sorry that you were not satisfied, but this is extremely rare situation (as you can see from our reviews also) that could have been resolved at the time. I have offered you a night stay to apologise and show you this is not our usual self, but you have refused.

Local attractions

If you’re hankering after beach days, the closest places to find them are at Teignmouth (15 minutes’ drive) and Dawlish (20 minutes) – both excellent options for some time on the sands. Or maybe woodland walks are more your style? If so, head for the trails at Haldon Forest (10 minutes) instead. In fact, there are lots of walking trails to stride along in the surrounding area, especially if you make your way into Dartmoor National Park for the likes of Cantonteign Falls (20 minutes) and Haytor Rocks (25 minutes). Meanwhile, outdoor activity of a different variety is at Dainton Park Golf Club (15 minutes). For a change of scenery, step back in time at Powderham Castle (20 minutes) or Kents Cavern Prehistoric Caves (half an hour), or plan a city day wandering around Exeter (20 minutes), visiting the cathedral, the House That Moved and the intriguing underground passages.
