  • Family-run Devon site off the A3122 road, two miles from Dartmouth
  • Blackpool Sands 10 minutes’ drive; Dartmoor National Park half an hour
  • Spacious dog-friendly pitches; bus stop just outside
Coastal walks, beach days, outdoor adventures, family days out… whatever it is that brings you to this part of Devon, you’ll have a great base at Dartmouth Caravan Park. This family-friendly site (which also welcomes your four-legged companion) is part of a farm that’s surrounded by the stunning south Devon countryside and easily accessed from the main A3122 road to Dartmouth (five minutes’ drive). The harbour town’s shops, activities, attractions and restaurants are a couple of miles away, and there’s a handy bus stop just outside the site for easy trips to town via public transport. Dartmouth itself has plenty to keep you busy, especially if you take a ferry across the River Dart to explore all the things on the Kingswear side as well. It’s far from the only option for a day out, though – in fact, this area is pretty packed with things to do, with Woodlands Family Theme Park, huge sandy beaches like Blackpool Sands, Paignton Zoo and the huge expanse of Dartmoor National Park all within a half-hour drive. And that’s before you’ve even planned trips to nearby towns like Totnes (20 minutes) and Salcombe (35 minutes), or the fishing village of Brixham (25 minutes). That’s a lot to fit in, so it’s good to know that Dartmouth Caravan Park is comfortable enough to settle in for several days, with spacious pitches that have access to a dog park as well as a clean and modern bathroom block with accessible facilities.

Power optional grass and gravel site

Liked Well, what a great find! I almost don't want to sing its praises so it remains the hidden secret :)

We stayed for 4 nights.

Abi was beyond helpful, kind, and very interested in hearing helpful suggestions to improve things. Abi was looking for all feedback from seasoned campers, to make it even better – there wasn’t much in our opinion, she could do to make it any better than it is already. This site only opened last year, as most will know farming is a hard livelihood. The diversification is needed to survive, and this site has done it with great results. The only thing we suggested was a dog washing facility, even a hose by the amenities block would be great.

The pitches are level, also they have a large grass area immediately next to your gravel pitch. Sadly, the weather was horrendous with torrential rain, and like most of the UK the ground was sodden. However, the joys of British weather couldn't be helped. I am sure the extra grass pitch included in your booking is a real bonus of the extra space, when the sun is shining and you are sitting outside admiring the rolling hills with a cup of tea or glass of wine. You have a water tap (the pressure is VERY high) on each pitch, with grey water disposal, plus your electric.

Abi was, whilst we were there, installing a drive over, motorhome service grey water disposal point, as this had been commented on – again doing her best with helpful suggestions. Although there is grey water disposal on each pitch.

The facilities were immaculate, with the under-floor heating, great showers with excellent water pressure, I used them (I usually only shower on our motorhome - but I preferred the quality of these facilities, although ours are excellent on our A class Hymer) the toilets, both in "His and Hers" facilities were spotless.

The electric hook up worked faultlessly (unlike lower amps at other sites) People have commented on the expense of the site, some sites we have stayed only have 6amp NOT 16amp like this site - and many are charging to pay per amp.

Price - also to consider.....you pay / charge a cheap fee, and you may get people who don't respect other people's quiet enjoyment of this site.........

The WIFI was very good and also free.

The bus service (No. 92 Buses Totnes to Dartmouth) that runs from outside the static home site next door is a real bonus (Hourly Monday to Friday approx. 15 / 20 mins to the hour + from Dartmouth back up 22 minutes past the hour on No. 92 bus - check Saturday / Sunday in reception in the amenities block), sadly the road immediately before the site is narrow and a little difficult to walk to Sainsburys just up the road, or down to Dartmouth. Although having driven it a few times we would definitely walk it next time. There is a footpath Abi pointed out where you could walk down to the River Dart, however the weather was so bad we didn't get to do this walk.

Abi even approached the local council to try to donate edges of her fields to enable a safe footpath to the local amenities, however the council declined !

All in all we will be back, and have already shared this site with friends who often visit Dartmouth.

Disliked Nothing, apart from the weather !

Power optional grass and gravel site

Liked Lovely site with big pitches and a nice countryside view. Excellent new shower and toilet facilities which was immaculately clean and warm and we loved the gentle music playing, lovely touch! Everything was clearly signposted or easily found. Great location for us, extremely close to Dartmouth and we also visited Start point, Torcross and Totnes, all within easy reach.

Disliked Not really a dislike but found the pitch cost a little dear in comparison with others we've stayed at with a similar standard that were substantially cheaper, however saying that, we would stay here again.

Local attractions

There are multiple areas to explore at Woodlands Family Theme Park (five minutes’ drive), so if the kids (or you…) are into testing your agility skills, you might want to check out the Ninja Zone, with climbing walls and net bridges; if you’re into thrills, the Cyclone Canyon Zone has watercoasters and toboggan runs. There are also falconry displays and a zoo farm. The harbour at Brixham (25 minutes) is home to a full-size replica of the Golden Hind, the 16th-century galleon that sailed around the world under Sir Francis Drake. Walk along the Brixham Breakwater, which stretches half a mile into Tor Bay, for expansive views of the town. Dartmoor National Park (half an hour) has plenty of top spots where you can indulge your active passions, whether you’re into hiking, cycling, horse riding or canoeing. Otters, bats and cuckoo birds are among the many wildlife species inhabiting the park’s open moorlands, bogs and woodland.
