  • On a working farm in the north Devon countryside
  • A five-minute drive to Saunton Sands
  • Free hot showers and well-kept amenities
A five-minute drive to Saunton Sands... then back for lashings of free hot water under the shower and settling down on your chosen pitch to spark up a campfire under the north Devon sky... the peeps at Branton's Fairlinch Camping reckon they do a 'classic camping experience' here, and they're surely, definitely, right. Set on a working farm in north Devon coastal countryside, Fairlinch has its camping in an open field that's actively farmed throughout the year and left unmarked so that guests can pick their own pitch (take your time; there are some splendid views). It's a friendly place where the team is always on hand to answer questions or dispense info for guests to get the most out of their hol whatever their tastes (beaches, most likely). The amenities – powerful electric showers and strong flush toilets – are cleanly kept and there's also ice pack freezing or mobile charging if you need it. And – of course – both campfires and barbecues are allowed.

What customers say

A basic, roomy campsite with brilliant value, chilled vibe & stunning views. Love the freedom to pitch anywhere, heaps of hot showers & clean loos. Great spot for Saunton Sands & Braunton. Some feedback on long grass & unisex loos needing more cleans. Staff are ace.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Great price point - toilets clean - lovely staff attending to this . We will certainly return - lots of space - good old fashioned no frills campsite perfect for beach holiday. Kids loved the space and freedom .

Disliked Group of younger campers driving erratically and dangerously . Visiting staff did have words and it did stop . Would not put us off returning .

Local attractions

To the beach first, natch: the four magnif sandy surfing beaches of Saunton Sands, Putsborough, Woolacombe and Ilfracombe are all under 15 minutes' drive from Fairlinch Camping, and surf schools are around close by too if you haven't yet dipped a toe in the foam. The two closest villages to Fairlinch are Braunton and Croyde, both with a good choice of shops, pubs and restaurants, and both on the South West Coast Path for hikes among more magnif scenery. More hikes as well as bike rides are at the nearby Tarka Trail, the 180-mile route taken by the eponymous otter; if you're picking it up at Braunton, the 31-mile section between between Braunton and Meeth is level and car-free so should suit all cycling sorts.
