Reap all the benefits of a hol in nature but without any of the dastardly drawbacks by settling in at the treetop tents of Trengilly Wartha Inn on the edge of the Lizard Heritage Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This spacious six-acre site in wildlife-rich surrounds (keep an eye out for Titch the goat…) provides luxury accommodation with linen and towels included, so there’s no need to lug oodles of equipment along on the trip.
With a pub sitting right next door – the award-winning Trengilly Wartha Inn, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner – and a kitchen in each unit, bringing the cooking bits and bobs isn’t necessary either. If you’re planning on eating at your tent, a dining table’s set up for sit-down meals and a comfy sofa means there's also the option of curling up with a tray on your lap after a hard day’s wandering beside the Helford river (10 minutes’ drive) is possible.
Each tent also has a private bathroom (fancy) and a built-in barbecue and firepit outside in the shared garden for outdoor entertaining. Venture further around the grounds with a four-legged friend – this site’s dog-friendly – to stumble across a stream and a lake circled by grassy green fields and wooded areas.
Further out again is the cracking Cornish countryside and coast, with 350 beaches to pick from across the county (ask Trengilly Wartha’s owners how to get to the hidden ones or try sandy Gyllyngvase, just outside Falmouth). The nearest big town at 25 minutes’ drive, this is the spot to stock up on supplies but a small shop’s five minute’s drive away in Nancenoy village for the basics.

There’s no need to set sights on the seaside to spot coastal animals – instead, bound over to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary at Gweek to meet these rescued creatures (around five minutes’ drive). But if you’d rather explore on and under the water? Porthkerris Divers is half an hour away for sessions below the sea and Anglo Dawn, 20 minutes, organises fishing trips and shark snorkelling tours.
If gentle roams are more your thing, join the South West Coast Path (Porthleven, 25 minutes away, is a decent beginning point) for lopes around the Lizard Peninsula to take in epic views over the craggy cliffs in this especially scenic part of the world.
Away from coastal adventures, you may like to take a ride on the Helston Railway (20 minutes), clambering along the climbing route at Via Ferrata Cornwall (15 minutes) or have a gentle wander through Trebah Garden (15 minutes).
