  • A quick drive from St Ives
  • Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • Family- and dog-friendly park
If you're after a Cornish holiday set in the county's southwest and within seriously simple reach of the arty town of St Ives, have a look at highly regarded and family friendly Higher Penderleath Caravan and Camping Park: it's only five minutes' drive from the town centre and handily set for getting around the spectacular scenery of the Land's End peninsula. Nature, walks and calm quiet days are in these parts too, as Penderleath is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty among the microclimate of Penwith, with easy access to the South West Coast Path running along Cornwall's entire coastline. The site is easy to get to from the A30. The owners take pride in the clean and friendly atmosphere of their park, which has facilities including toilet blocks with free hot showers, a launderette and a washing-up room.

Liked: It's hard to write this review because the owner seems to be very nice, but I need to be honest! When arriving you can clearly see that this place was once loved. It's now run down very badly and all your paying for is electric and water on a field. They also had other campers next to each other even tho they have 100 of piches available so those that want peace can get it and not be placed in-between families with small children that like to play Early,

Disliked: Only one toilet available to use I think this avoids them paying for a cleaner, they have a good truck that was never open. The shop only has cobwebs for sale. The showers id advise you to wear wellys as the floors are disgusting.. on arrival your met with 3 large bins overflowing with rubbish. It's miles away from any shops so if you have any walking difficulties you will be stuck. The campsite is better advertised as a hostel field because what you pay for is definitely not what you get! No refunds offered either so please think before booking this site. Sorry to be harsh but someone is putting the cash into there pocket instead of the camp... I won't be returning

I will return as it's great for St Ives and quiet.

Liked: The layout, the views, our pitch, the play park for the kids

Disliked: No soap in the toilets for our whole stay. Everything was closed all of the time. No staff around. It felt like it was off season as so quiet. Shame though as it feels like it used to be a great little site :-)

Liked: Pitch Size

Disliked: I found it quite strange that reception wasn't open at all during the stay, if we required anything at all we would have to call the numbers provided. The shop wasn't open either which also seemed strange. The showers were not the best either, and again, no evidence of anyone being around to clean them.

Local attractions

The art galleries, craft galleries and inns and restaurants of St Ives are all easy to get to from the site, as it's only five minutes' drive from the town centre. Parking can be a bit tricky in town in high season, so save stress – and cash – by taking the bus, running five times a day from right outside the site. St Ives's beaches are among the many highly scenic swathes of sand around Higher Penderleath Caravan and Camping Park and the Land's End part of Cornwall, almost all with easy access to spectacular walks along the South West Coast Path where short stretches or longer hikes in either direction are easy to find. Penzance five miles from base is a 20-minute walk from Cornish landmark St Michael's Mount, the tiny tidal island linked to the town of Marazion by causeway. Further along at 16 miles is Land's End, via Porthcurno and the smashing cliffside Minack Theatre.
